Simon stood from his desk before moving towards his office door, opening it slowly. Stepping into the well-lit corridor on the other side, he made his way through its halls with his arms at his sides, and his hands balled into massive fists. On his way to the buildings exit, several Marines dropped back before standing at attention while others gave an inappropriate salute indoors, neither bothered Simon nor were they capable of slowing his stride.
Opening the exit door, he ignored the beautiful sunset as he stepped outside onto the deck of a large Marine ship. Its size dwarfing the nearby fisherman boats docked alongside it at a medium sized wooden port just outside one of many villages on the Gecko Archipelago.
As he stood there, inspecting every single Marine on deck, Simon couldn't help but frown. Before becoming Vice-Admiral, he had dreamt about becoming one for years, it was all he could think about for a long time. But, after ranking up, Simon felt unsatisfied and wanted even more. Even if he was a Vice-Admiral, he couldn't stop thinking about how long it'd take him to rank up again. Years? Decades? Who knew.. Ranking up in the Marines revolved around strength and achieving success in your current position. That's how he saw it anyways. Because of this however, he felt his prior success as a Rear-Admiral reset once he accepted the rank of Vice-Admiral. It was a painful realization he had not yet come to terms with.
Glancing from his obediant troops, Simon stepped to the edge of the vessel, peering down over it's railings at the civilians below. The sound of people complaining, children crying and Marines giving orders could be heard over the side of the ship, each muffling out the other as Simon stood there, listening, watching. He'd been given orders to give orders to a lesser Marine Officer to investigate an altercation between what was believed to be Pirates just off the coast of Gecko Island. But, being in the ambitious state that he was, Simon took it upon himself to investigate properly.
Reports say that the mishap happened days ago, meaning the groups responsible could've been long gone, or even non-existant at that point. With a scowl, Simon glared down at the civilians with no intent of following false leads or searching just to search, he would gather information from the people of Gecko Island by force if necessary. Now that he was there, he wasn't going to leave without arresting a Pirate or two. If he couldn't find one, he would fabricate a scapegoat using the civilians he'd forced to gather outside his ship from the nearby villages in a move to interrogate them. As a Marine Vice Admiral, he knew how morally reprehensible such an act would be if he chose to carry it out, but at that moment, he couldn't care less.
