The story begins twenty-one years ago in the glorious undersea kingdom of Fishman Island. Born to a barracuda merman father and an angelfish mermaid mother, Ulhar surprised everyone by being born as a sea serpent fishman, though the latter half of that wasn't too surprising since it happens all the time. What surprised them was the sea serpent part considering it didn't happen often.
As he grew up, he decided to train under the master at the Fishman Karate Dojo and learned fishman karate, eventually developing his own style which he calls Fishman Karate: Leviathan Style. This took years of practice, during which he learned of the outside world from sailors who passed through Fishman Island. Many of these were pirates, many of whom were great people that Ulhar admired, helping decide to become a pirate.
At the age of 13, having learned much from his master in the dojo but still lacking in real world experience, Ulhar joined a small pirate crew and took sail across the seas, going deeper into the New World than most would dare to go. Eventually the crew got in over their heads and decided to try to escape across the Calm Belt, a mistake not unheard of. It did not end well for the rest of the crew and it took the remainder four years to leave it, with all but Ulhar dying in the process. Despite asking for help and not being a major problem for the government before, the crew never received help from any of the passing Marines, not even a can of food. When the ship finally floated out into North Blue, Ulhar had decided that he needed to return home and create a crew of his own and destroy the current government and replace it with a better one.
To that end, Ulhar made the Leviathan Pirates and perfected the Leviathan Style of Fishman Karate. Having built his crew Ulhar began making a name for himself and his crew by attacking and destroying Marine ships and leaving the crew alive to tell the story to others, making them famous quite quickly. Following this, he took on one of the previous Shichibukai and defeated him, taking his place among the group of 7 pirates. Usually, this would seem counter-intuitive, but Ulhar finds it genius. He has placed himself in a semi-trusted position with the World Government and as he follows their instructions they trust him more. All that is left is to get close to their leaders and destroy them, which Ulhar is simply waiting for...
Your Good Side:
- Loyal: Ulhar will never forsake those people and things close to him. His crew takes top priority, then his family, then Fishman Island, then Fishmen in general, then friends, and then everyone else. He keeps this list engraved in his mind, constantly remind himself of their importance to him.
- Sympathetic to others' plights: Ulhar will help those in need whenever he is able. He is careful to not conflict with the the interests of his crew or any of the things he's loyal to.
- Protective: He will not let anyone near the things he values such as his friends and family, unless he thinks they can handle themselves. This generally means he won't let his crew fight the stronger Marines or pirates when he is able to do it himself unless the crewmate is absolutely sure of their own victory, in which case getting in their way would dishonor them.
- Devoted to his cause: As mentioned before, he values the things close to him very much. Close to the top of his list is his cause, which is to destroy the current government and replace it with a better one. The extent of this is that all members of his crew must pledge themselves to this cause, and to keep this secret lest the World Government find out.
- Focused on his cause, usually: Not much to say here except that Ulhar it almost always focused on the destruction of the World Government, except in moments where other things require his more urgent attention.
Your Bad Side:
- Short-tempered: To anyone and everyone, beware the Leviathan's wrath. He will not put up with childish antics or those that harm those he cares about. (Even so, he doesn't harm his crewmates much if they act childish.)
- Overreacts: Simply put, all of his reactions are heavily exaggerated. When he laughs, he bellows his laughter; when he cries, his eyes spout rivers (that's a slight exaggeration); when he gets angry, he just about destroys an island (only about half of the island ends up destroyed).
- Bull-headed: When Ulhar makes up his mind, he sticks to it and next to nothing can change it. The only thing known to change his mind is a unanimous decision by his crew.
- Impetuous: He generally does not have a plan when he goes into a fight. He generally ad-libs the whole thing.
- Easily distracted: As before mentioned, he is usually quite focused on his objective, but when he's not, he's very easily distracted.
