He was expecting her to be like others he had shared his story with. Rei was an unpredictable girl, and he knew that it would take a while to fully understand her, unlike most people. Minoru could usually exchange a few words with somebody and he would immediately understand them. At Rei's words, he started to wonder what she had in store for him again. The way she was approaching suggested that she was either going to let him go or kill him. A quick death sounded nicer than freezing to death in his ice coffin. The ice itself seemed to want to kill him. He felt as if it was saying, "C'mon, Rei! Hypothermia is a flick of a finger away! Minoru didn't think that Rei wanted to kill him just yet. She was insulting him in a way. He thought of it like buttering the toast. She was preparing him to be killed. As Rei leaned forward, Minoru took what he thought might be his last breath, and looked her straight in the eye. Rei closed the space in between them, and they were so close that Minoru, even though he was about to die, wished he wasn't in the ice. She was proposing that he join her crew? Minoru gaped at her for a few seconds before realizing that he was supposed to answer. Before he could talk, though, she continued. He felt himself blush yet again as her soft hand slid across his cheek. For a pirate, Rei was surprisingly gentle. He felt her warm cheek hit his in such a way that would make him tackle and kiss her if he was not trapped. As she spoke, Minoru felt the ice breaking off him, piece by piece. He waited for all of the ice to fall off before answering. Going down on one knee, he said, "I, Minoru Usagi, swear my loyalty to the Black Moon Pirates, and Captain Rei Satsuki."
