Attire: Generally, Poppy is seen in traveling attire that is close fitting, and durable. Her top is a simple white dress shirt, though that is mostly covered by a tight fitting black, long sleeved, jacket. It has a silver zipper that only goes up to just below her breasts, at which point the jacket has a gap of about two inches that goes up all the way to the tips of the high collar. The jacket is adorned with various accents such as an intricate cross on the left side of her chest, near her shoulder; as well as crosses on the sleeve of both shoulders.
Around her waist she wears a belt with several pouches that are used to hold things like money and the like. It is in no way used to hold up her pants which are as tight fitting as her jacket. They are half black, with the inner part, and crotch, being white. These pants trail down into a pair of boots which have a slightly open top, but which tighten towards the foot to fit snugly.
On occasion, she can be found wearing various dresses, though this is rare.
Abnormalities: None. BACKGROUND It was obvious from the start that Poppy would not grow up to be a normal person. Her family conditions were far from ideal or normal, and her life started with misfortune; Poppy's mother died while giving birth to her. This fact never really had much impact on her life, though. She grew to view her father as an idol, and her mother was never really mentioned much. As any child would, she was curious, but as she grew older, it was simply a matter-of-fact that people sometimes die, and it's unfortunate, but there's no use in spending too much time thinking about such things.
During the first few years of Poppy's life, things were relatively normal. At least, they were as normal as they could possibly be. Her father was a traveling doctor, and so they hopped from town to town often when she was a child. Usually, he would leave her with a nanny, or someone who could take care of her while he worked. Despite the fact that work generally kept him busy, he loved to dote on Poppy every moment he was with her. If you asked her these days, she would probably tell you that she was the only one her father truly loved.
When she was four he started spending more time with her to teach her how to read. He guided her intrests along by always reading her stories that involved doctors, or scientists. Though, he'd occasionally read her the odd fairy tale, to make sure that she didn't get exposed to so much that she came to hate the medical, and scientific fields. As fate would have it, she soaked up every little detail, and loved learning about the human body, and how it worked.
In the early years, her father would drop little tidbits about proper sanitary measures, and how to properly treat a cut. Just offhand remarks that were more like tips to live by rather than teachings. As she got older though, he began to teach her about how to properly stitch a wound, or relocate a dislocated joint. It was all quite exciting to her. Not only did they get to see many cool towns, and places with their traveling, but she was learning so many amazing and helpful things.
Not long after her tenth birthday, things took a turn towards the macabre. Her father had started teaching her about anesthetics and various ways to administer it. He even gave her a demonstration by coming up behind her with a rag that had a small dose of chloroform on it. It was shortly after that demonstration that Poppy's father decided to give her a peek into what he did.
It was late one night, and he asked her to go up to a stranger and act as if she were lost. Being the obedient child she was, she did as she was told. While Poppy was talking to the man, her father came up behind him, and did as he had done to her; he covered the man's mouth with a cloth and knocked him out. Poppy was reasonably confused, but her father assured her that things would make sense, and she readily believed him. The two of them went to a nearby rundown apartment. It was empty save for a table with straps on it.
The situation was all rather absurd to the ten year old, and yet, as her father was strapping the man to the table, the first words out of her mouth were that the room wasn't very sanitary. Her father simply chuckled, and explained that it would be alright, and that he'd done this many times before. The next thing she said came when he started to undress the man. She questioned the rightness of their situation. After all, she knew that it wasn't right to just abduct someone, and then undress them, and she knew enough to know what would happen after he was undressed. This was the point where her moral compass became skewed. The way he explained it was simply that some things aren't acceptable to people, but sometimes you have to step over boundaries to be successful. It may be wrong to abduct someone, and the man might die, but, he told her, it was all for the greater good, and so it was alright. People would be thanking them when they made a break through.
Everything in her life had been in preparation for this point in her life. Her father made himself the center of her world, and made himself a man of wisdom and knowledge in her mind. That's not to say he didn't love her as much as he did, but he also made sure that she would trust him, and be open to his ideals. So, when he gave her his explanation, she believed it wholeheartedly. It helped his case that it was reasonable, even if it wasn't ethical.
That night, she watched as her father gave him a through examination, and explained everything to her. It made her a little queasy, but she managed to push through it. The praise he gave her was more than worth the fact that it was a little disturbing. Over the next two years, she watched her father preform various acts. Everything from autopsies, to experimental amputations, to creating wounds only to test stitching techniques. He operated on the young, the old, males, and females. Some died, and some were left in alleyways to wake up confused, and left to deal with the after effects. Of course, she was taught to only let the ones who didn't see their faces live.
Poppy's life from then on was much of the same. Her father taught her both the light and the dark side of their practice. He taught her some of his experimental procedures as well as teaching her the accepted ways of dealing with wounds. He explained that the best way of avoiding suspicion was making yourself out to not be a suspect. To create a good reputation as a good doctor, and to portray oneself as likeable. The young girl happily ate up every lesson he taught her.
Things weren't meant to last forever, though. Around the time when she was seventeen, and eighteen, her father's health began to deteriorate. He had caught some unknown disease, and despite all of their efforts to cure it, he passed away when she was early on into her nineteenth year. Poppy managed to take her father's death in stride. She had seen much death in the nineteen years of her life. It was as part of life, as unfortunate as it was. Not only that, but she knew that the best way to honor her father was to continue on their work, and to not falter.
It was easy enough for her to get on, on her own. Her father had taught her well, and living on her own was hardly any different than living with her father. When her father was alive, she'd always taken a back seat, staying quiet, and observing. With him gone, she continued to live in that persona, albeit with a few alterations so as not to hinder her ability to work. Outwardly, she was a kind young woman who was a bit shy, and who could, at times, be a little clumsy, but dedicated, and steady handed when it came to helping those in need. She would often times help out for no charge at all, and she was always sweet, and kind when talking to all of her patients.
Of course, her true personality was quite different. She wasn't a cold person, but she was focused. At night, she would vary between strategies. Some nights, she would go to a bar and attract men with her sweet personality, and then asking them to come home with her. If they followed they would always find themselves not breathing the next morning. Other nights, she would take the age old approach of simply chloroforming the person from behind and dragging them away.
Easily, she could be classified as a sociopath. The one thing that was consistent between her true personality, and the cover persona, was her kindness towards patients. Even if it was an unsuspecting victim, she would talk to them with a kind voice. Though, if it was one of the abductees, the kindness would come off as almost sickly sweet.
Poppy has continued to live in this way, traveling from town to town, and island to island. She never stays in one place for too long, knowing full well that should she stay too long it would be easy to find out about her after-dark practices, and despite her beliefs, the authorities wouldn't look to well on the numerous deaths, and maiming that could be connected to her.
