Abnormalities: Upon the back of his right shoulder is a brand marking him as a slave, which he tries to always keep covered. BACKGROUND Lao Hu was born on Fishman Island to parents who ran a Dojo for Fishman Karate. Though they lived modestly, his parents were in fact direct relatives to the Royal Family, making him a cousin of the Princess. At the age of five his father decided to start teaching him the art of Fishman Karate. The two parents discussed at a young age that it was better that he knew how to defend himself, knowing just what the world was like. So their child learned how to fight using the water around him as a weapon. However, his interests lay beyond just being able to defend himself and very early on he developed an interest in music. Eager to encourage him, his parents decided to pay for music lessons when he was aged six.
As a child, being the son of relatives to the Royal Family he was occasionally brought to Ryugu Palace, where he would spend time with his cousins. They had a good relationship, often playing together. However, at the age of seven, a catastrophe struck the Kingdom. The Mermaid Princess, only a child, was kidnapped. The whole Kingdom was in uproar. It was the first time Lao Hu learned about the anti-Human sentiment of Fishman Island's populations.
Through the tragedy he learned about the history of oppression Fishmen faced as a result of the Humans of the world above. He learned about the hatred the people felt for Humans and their kind. But in spite of it all, Lao Hu remained hopeful. Still a young innocent, he desired to see Fishmen and Humans coexisting. He was a hopeful optimist.
In the years that followed, he honed his musical talents by practicing with a fishbone guitar and singing. He would practice at home in the dojo when not training and by the age of fourteen he was already performing gigs at small venues as a job. He may have not gotten a big name, but the locals liked his music and he managed to do well. But his optimism never went away. By the age of sixteen, he made a decision that would affect the rest of his life - he wanted to perform a gig on the surface.
His parents were strongly against it, worried for their son. But Lao Hu refused, not only because he wanted to stand up for his own beliefs, but because he wanted to try and find his cousin and felt that, if he managed to make a name for himself on the surface, he would have a better chance of traveling the world until he found her. Against the will of his parents, Lao Hu made a deal with a venue on Shabondy Archipelago to perform a gig and snuck out to play the gig himself.
Unfortunately, however, Lao Hu's worldview would soon crash against the reality he lived in. When he arrived at Shabondy Archipelago, he discovered that he'd been set up. The "Bar Owners" he'd made a deal with to play a gig at a bar were actually slavers setting him up. Caught in an ambush, Lao Hu was captured and sold to an auction house, where he was presented as a cheap source of labour and entertainment - a Fishman who could also sing and play music.
Stripped of his freedom and shackled with an exploding collar, Lao Hu was eventually bought by a World Noble. Taken back to Mariejois, branded with a hot iron and thrown in a cell, Lao Hu was nothing but a toy to be played with. They'd feed him mere scraps and then put him on a stage to play music for the World Nobles and Government Officials. Any time he acted out or didn't play well enough, he'd be struck and beaten before being thrown back in his cell. He'd hit rock bottom, and worst of all, he'd brought it upon himself with his idealism. He began to learn to hate his own music and his own singing, beginning to see it only as a form of humiliation. But even within the dark cells, there was a glimmer of light.
It was a small group, but he'd found company in some of the other slaves put in his cell. They tried their best to keep each other's spirits up, knowing that none of them could handle the trials on their own. Sometimes Lao Hu would sing for them, helping to keep them from falling to despair - and in the process, himself. Slowly but surely he began to enjoy music again. But unfortunately, this did not last long. After four years of slavery, he faced yet another tragedy.
The family he'd come to care for while locked in his cell were eventually killed because the World Noble who owned them wanted more space for new 'entertainment'. The callous and cruel treatment of Lao Hu's family sent him over the edge, turning angry and hateful. He desired nothing more than to bite out the throats of the World Nobles and the World Government that supported them. And eventually, he would get his chance. A Pirate crew, or possibly revolutionaries, had somehow climbed up to the top of the Red Line and waged battle on Mariejois. In the battle Lao Hu escaped his cell, stole the key to his exploding collar and slaughtered several of the nobles himself, including the one who bought him. Along with other slaves who were set free, Lao Hu escaped to the seas.
But he had not forgotten his grudge. He still despised the World Government and the Marines for their part in his treatment. Lao Hu spent the next three years wandering the four blues, attacking Marine ships in his own desperate war on the World Government. He refuses to back down until either the World Government has collapsed or he has drawn his last breath.

LAO HU LONG
ABILITIES AND INVENTORY INVENTORYWeapons
- Kirisame: A large, curved blade, Kirisame is a weapon designed to be fitted onto a Fishman's dorsal fin like a glove - albeit a very sharp and dangerous glove. When in the water, this blade offers a Fishman another form of attack, capable slicing through people simply by swimming past them..
Non-weapons
- Gourd: A clay gourd filled with water rather than alcohol, as is the usual. Although the gourd contains water, it is not actually used for drinking very often so much as it is used to provide Lao Hu with a water source even in areas with little water.
- Fishbone Guitar: A guitar his father bought him back on Fishman Island, this guitar is made from the skeleton of a fish. Even now, Lao Hu still carries it in a case strapped to his back..
ABILITIES- Musical Talent: Lao Hu is a talented guitarist and vocalist, having been trained in music since he was a child. Even to this day he practices very often, remaining very skilled.
RACIAL FEATURES- Sense of Smell: Being a Tiger Shark Fishman, Lao Hu possesses an acute sense of smell, allowing him to detect people purely by scent. Not only does this allow him to pick up on hiding enemies, but it also allows him to differentiate between real people and impostors. However, it also means that very strong scents can make him gag.
- Shark Teeth: One notable feature of Shark Fishmen is their teeth - particularly how sharp they are. Even the weakest Shark Fishman can bite through stone. But perhaps the greatest thing about Lao Hu's teeth is that, even when broken, they can be regrown in mere moments.
- Fishman Karate: Having been born the son of a master in Fishman Karate, Lao Hu has been extensively trained in the art, to the point that he might even be considered a master himself, if not an expert at the very least.
