MIGUEL VAN HELSING
29 || MALE || SHANDIAN || MARINE IDENTIFICATIONFull Name: Aliases: Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Date of Birth: November 25th.
Crew: N/A.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral.
Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius.
Personal Jolly Roger: Knight Templar PERSONALITYPOSITIVE TRAITS:
- There is nothing more important to Miguel than his own personal code of honor. He will abide to it no matter what the cost may be as he views his code the highest form of law for himself, believing the current system to be heavily flawed. He is so honorable that there is almost nothing that would make him break his code of honor, as he believes that breaking would make him no better than a pirate or a slaver.
- One of Miguel’s most valued traits is his remarkable intelligence and learning ability. He is known to be creative and brilliant in war strategy and tactics, amongst other things. It is something he constantly nurtured in his stay in the Blue Seas. This intelligence has made him very deadly on the battlefield and helps him overcome his problems with lack of experience.
- He’s not just very intelligent, but quite shrewd as well. Despite his naivety, he’s a good judge of character and has made many a great judgment call, especially in missions. Part of being shrewd requires astuteness, which he has in spades. It’s this trait that actually lead him to join the Marines and try to change the system from the inside, deeming it the better choice to trying use the methods of a pirate or a revolutionary.
- While Miguel has always had some perseverance, his experiences in life have made this into one of his defining traits. He will always continue to do something until he succeeds despite any difficulties and failures he may encounter along the way, knowing that his failures make him stronger in the end. This is why he continues to persist in the marines under the World Government’s thumb despite everything that’s happened to him.
- It takes a lot of courage to be a member of the Marines, and even more to be part of a force that is mainly composed of a race that actively discriminates against all others. While he does have his fears and concerns, he doesn’t let that stop him from keeping his head and staring even the scariest beings down with his usual stoicism or even actual defiance in rare, extreme cases.
- Even though Miguel may seem cold and detached on the outside, he isn’t the person that he appears to be. Deep down inside, he’s actually very kind. He has this tendency to help people even if he doesn’t have to, and prefers to do so incognito. In fact, his kindness is the main driving force behind his want to change things in the world so that it would be a better place for everyone.
- Believe it or not, Miguel does have a sense of humor. It doesn’t come out to play often due to his stoicism, but when it does it is often very blunt and deadpan. Since humor isn’t his thing though, most of the people who hear it think that he’s perfectly serious, leading to confusion. It doesn’t help that he often doesn’t correct them and say that he’s trying to be funny either.
NEGATIVE TRAITS:
- Despite Miguel’s intelligence and prolonged stay in the Blue Seas, he is still quite naïve about the workings of this civilization’s culture. He still holds on to his Shandian upbringing and beliefs and it tends to color his views and opinions to this day, even after 17 years of separation from his home. It doesn’t help that he tends to stay away from interaction most of the time in order to maintain his image and have at least some degree of freedom in private.
- There are few things that Miguel loves more than having complete control over something or someone. It’s ironic considering the actual amount of control Miguel has over his life, but he uses the irony as a motivator to get things done faster. This love of control has lead him to become very manipulative, using the people around him as puppets in order to achieve his goals. As a consequence, he doesn’t like it when people mess with his plans, whether they know it or not.
- One of Miguel’s defining traits is his ambition. He will settle for nothing less than being the top dog, and he’s nearly there. Of course, he has his personal reasons for all of his ambition, mainly that he honestly believes that if he has more power and influence at his fingertips then he will have more power to change the world into the way it needs to become. If anyone stands in his way, he’ll just crush them like an ant.
- Miguel’s love of control also extends to himself. He prefers to remain stoic and is usually not affected by his emotions. That isn’t to say that he isn’t affected by them at all though –far from it- he just chooses to hide it and pretend that they don’t exist as he believes that virtue is sufficient for happiness. It is possible for him to lose his temper though, but when that happens he tends to smile sweetly… and while it makes him look handsome, those who know him become extremely afraid because it only bodes ill for the person who made him smile that way. If he starts laughing and it isn’t in private with only people he’s close to that he trusts, then it is usually a sign that he is absolutely furious.
- Even though Miguel is normally stoic, he is capable of being extremely vicious when he wants or needs to be. This can be seen in his preference for violent and destructive behavior as well as his penchant for very malicious and cruel actions when affronted or when there are obstacles in his way, both of which one wouldn’t normally expect from a guy like him. What’s worse, his malicious and violent actions are often done with a smile on his face, making it all the more frightening and surreal.
- Miguel has a flair for the theatrical and the dramatic. He just loves to be larger than life and be in-your-face about it. Strangely enough, it actually works with his normal stoicism because of the role he is forced to portray – a perfect angel of judgment. He does know the meaning of subtlety, but he prefers a more showy approach because the people tend to eat that up more.
- Like a peacock, Miguel is quite vain about his appearance, because it’s all part and parcel of his being and his performance. He always has the need to look good, especially for important events. It doesn’t help that this is encouraged –more like enforced- by the World Government in order to keep up their charade of him being an actual angel. While small scars and whatnot don’t bother him, severe disfigurements tend to enrage him, big time. It’s one of his few berserk buttons.

Height: 7’5” | 226.06 cm
Weight: 225 lbs | 102 kg
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Blue gray
Attire: While on official Marine duty, Miguel often dons custom-made close-fitting gray or silver suits with black accents, pockets, and cuffs. These are paired with a black button-up vest and polo shirt inside them along with a silver, white, or gray tie. On rare occasions, he may choose to wear a black suit with silver accents instead. These suits, vests, and polo shirts all have special slots that allow his wings to fit through them and move freely. His Marine’s Justice Coat is draped over his shoulders like a cape, effectively hiding his wings.
When not on duty, he tends to eschew the suit and the uniform altogether, preferring a simple shirt or wife-beater and jeans combo under his favorite black and red hooded leather trench coat. Of course, the shirts and wife-beaters have the same slots that his suits have, but his trench coat does not because he uses it to hide his wings. He usually wears black combat boots and a hat as well, the latter to try and hide his identity with.
Abnormalities: He has a pair of wings on his back that are normally small, but they are actually enormous at full size. These wings are silver instead of the usual white, and are more akin to the downward shape of Birkan wings instead of the usual upward Shandian wings. His personal jolly roger is tattooed on his upper back, directly in the center and just barely avoiding his wings. There is also a small scar going across his right eyebrow and cheek. BACKGROUND Most of the time, destiny never goes the way one planned it. A Shandian warrior named Ryoga thought that he was one of the exceptions with the perfect life that he carved out of his own two hands, with a perfect position as the Shandian chief’s favourite warrior, a loving and dutiful wife in the form of Gabriela, bountiful harvests in his own little parcel of Vearth, and the respect of his fellow warriors and tribesmen.
The birth of Sanguinius was something he thought to have furthered his good fortune, even though the boy had been born with strangely-shaped silver wings. He took his beautiful silver wings as a sign from their God that he was destined for something great and as such he and his wife treated the child like he was their greatest treasure.
However, not all people felt that way. Most of the other tribesmen and their children were leery about the small child with the seemingly-unnatural wings, thinking it to be some sort of omen from their God. However, most of them didn’t want to antagonize the overprotective Ryoga because he had the chief’s ear, so they just tried to stay neutral about the boy. Despite that, Sanguinius could still feel something off about most of the people that approached him even as a baby and tended to cry when most of them were, confusing his parents. Unknown to them, this was his Mantra was already manifesting.
This didn’t stop Sanguinius from having a normal early childhood, mainly because his mother and father forced him to interact with other people despite his misgivings. However, things started to go a bit downhill when his father started him on combat training at the age of five. At first, there seemed to be no problems when he started on forms. In fact, it was quite the opposite since he picked up the forms at an astounding rate. The problem was when it came to sparring.
For some bizarre reason, he kept seeing clones of his sparring partners and weird flashes wherein his sparring partners were doing something that they ended up doing again seconds later, causing his strikes to go awry when he tried to hit the wrong one. At first he thought it was just a trick of the light, but when it kept happening and messing him up, he started becoming annoyed at the phantoms and the visions and told his father about them. Believing his child to be cursed, he brought him to their priest and asked for his help.
Having never heard of this before, the priest just advised them to send him to the forest and beg their God Nola to lift the curse. Since it would be really dangerous and might end up getting him killed, his father decided not to let Sanguinius do it. However, this decision ended up with Sanguinius’ skills and self-esteem suffering due to his constant failure at sparring matches despite mastering the forms and theory perfectly. It also got him jeering and avoidance from his peers due to his sudden cursed status, lowering his morale even more. He even started to feel worthless and replaceable when he had two normal siblings born into the world.
Sanguinius tolerated this for four years before, taking their constant insults and teasing with his head held high. However, when his father’s status started to slip due to his poor showing and he overheard others –including his siblings- calling him a failure, he finally couldn’t take it anymore and decided to go to Nola and ask it to take his curse away, whether his parents agreed or not. Thus, one night he ran away into the Upper Yard to search for Nola and spent the next week there while hiding from anyone else in the area. Unfortunately, he was caught by a stranger with wings similar to his –though white instead of silver- after managing to catch a glimpse of the God. This stranger then made him fight for his life, which he obliged despite still having problems with his sight. However, he lost very quickly and was left at the mercy of this stranger, who demanded to know why he came into a forbidden zone. Having nothing else left to lose, he spilled the beans about his curse and his need to ask Nola to get rid of it.
The stranger, recognizing the signs and the potential this had, quickly talked him out of it and convinced him that what he had wasn’t a curse, but the manifestation of a rare and wonderful blessing- Mantra. He then introduced himself as offered to teach him about it in exchange for the dials he had on him and the knowledge of the other races of Skypieans. Wary and skeptical but utterly desperate to find a way to control his apparent gift so that he can finally fight properly, he accepted.
He was then lead out of the Upper Yard and into Birka, where he spent the next three years of his life being trained by his new master Genma and his friends in his Mantra. Most of those three years he spent with his new teachers as he finally figured out what those phantoms and visions were and eventually managed to control them as well as use them to his advantage. Not only that, but he had figured out that he could sense people with it. Once he had finally removed the only thing holding him back, his combat skills increased exponentially to the point that he could easily go toe-to-toe with any one of his teachers bar his master at the end of those three years. He did not only train but he also acted as one of his master’s helpers in order to try and pay back what he had done for him.
Despite all of his improvements though, he still missed his family. That was why at the end of those three years, he decided to leave Birka and head back to Skypiea, promising to always remember them and to find a way to pay them back in full for everything. Just to show his people that he wasn’t a useless failure, he decided to disguise himself and challenge some of the warriors once he had arrived at Skypiea.
Being the proud warriors they were, they accepted Sanguinius’ challenge, not knowing that it was him under that disguise. With his Mantra and the full use of his skills, he managed to easily trounce them despite only being 13 and holding himself back by not flying or using his wings. Once he had won, he was brought to the chief and applauded for his great show of skill before being asked to remove his cloak. Suffice to say, he had shocked them when he had taken off his cloak and flexed his silver wings, revealing himself to be the cursed child who was thought to have been eaten by Nola all those years ago.
The shocked chief asked where he had been for the past three years, only for Sanguinius to dodge around the question and simply said that his curse was no longer a problem because someone helped him with it. Deciding not to question him further even though the rest of tribal elders’ curiosity was peaked, he called for the boy’s family. The family was confused as to why they were summoned by the chieftain, but it quickly turned to shock when they saw the older, bigger Sanguinius in front of them. A tearful family reunion ensued after both parents and his siblings punched him for running away to the Upper Yard without saying a word and disappearing for three years.
After the joyful celebration that came with Sanguinius’ return and the apparent lifting of his curse, life seemed to be great for a while now that everyone seemed to like him. However, Sanguinius’ developing Mantra could sense something different about them, as if they were even more off than before. Little did he know that he was actually sensing their newfound jealousy and insecurity that they try to hide. He tried to mingle with people more, but that feeling kept putting him off and pushing him away from the others. Unlike the time before he had left, he had learned to trust his gut feeling. Unlike him though, his father and the rest of his family capitalized on his new popularity.
Unfortunately, Sanguinius’ gut proved to be right. A few months after he had returned, a massacre happened in the village while everyone was sleeping. A couple of his father’s jealous rivals pinned it on him and his father. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts to prove their innocence under tribal law… he failed due to the very nature of his own people’s laws. As such, he and his father were banished to a desert cloud.
However, before they were able to be transported to the desert cloud, Sanguinius and his father managed to escape to the Grand Line by knocking out all the guards, robbing them of all their dials and then floating down by using the same Octopus Balloon that they were planning on using to transport them to the desert cloud with. They managed to somehow land on Namakura Island, where they were almost immediately attacked by the weird-looking wingless natives. They managed to fight them off and hijack a boat to leave in… only to realize that they had absolutely no idea where they were going.
They were subsequently captured by slavers a few days, who easily outmanoeuvred the weakened and starving Shandians them in the waters. Even worse, father and son were separated by the slavers to different ships heading in different directions, with his going to what he would later know as Sabaody Archipelago. Sanguinius has never seen his father since.
Once he was there, he was placed in an auction house wherein he was first treated as some sort of sideshow freak with his silver wings and bizarre hairstyle, complete with torture on the side that he retaliated to by using insults. Because of his unruly behaviour and his unknown species –mostly because Sanguinius refused to say what he was- they held off on selling him for two months and just used him as a display piece.
After two months, he was finally placed in heavy chains and full-body restraints and showed off to the potential buyers, figuring that they had to shut his mouth in order to get a buyer interested in him. Unsurprisingly, a lot of buyers were interested in such a young, exotic specimen, which led to an intense bidding war. A distinguished old gentleman with a beard managed to win him as a slave, and he was promptly transported to his new home.
At first, Sanguinius had to be constantly disciplined because he rebelled against doing a lot of the chores. However, he soon quickly wised up and decided to pretend to be dutiful in order to be able to recuperate his body and break free from the place. During that time, his owner had taken a particular interest in him and began badgering him with questions about his name, identity, and history. He stubbornly refused to answer and pretended that he was mute. Surprisingly though, he wasn’t punished for withholding the information, and he didn’t know why.
A few months before his 15th birthday, Sanguinius’ body had finally recovered from all of the abuse and malnutrition he had suffered and had returned to its former glory –maybe even stronger, in fact. His owner was still trying to pry information out of him in a pleasant manner, but he was still not saying anything. Weirdly enough, he had been making strange remarks about him looking like something called an angel as well as befriending him by giving him extra food and even some books to read. Much better treatment than what he got in that terrible place, but it still wasn’t enough to convince him to stay and be a slave. Therefore he decided to try and escape from the man’s house.
Unfortunately, Sanguinius was caught and easily subdued by his owner. Instead of locking him up somewhere though, he was just bandaged up and left to do his normal duties with the threat of death should he try to escape again. A few days after that, his owner revealed himself as one of the Gorosei, brought him in front of the rest of them, and then made him an offer: freedom from slavery in exchange for becoming a marine and pretending to be a real angel, their angel. He agreed and was immediately sent to the marines after having his name changed by the Gorosei to become Miguel Alejandro Van Helsing.
With the Gorosei’s blessing, he entered the Academy and breezed through it due to his training, discipline, and sheer determination. He was then placed onto a station within the Grand Line, wherein he began his quick and meteoric rise to power, helped by his ambition, intellect and his growing reputation as the angel of the marines. He made a name for himself as one of the most ruthless yet fair marines around, respected and feared by criminals and fellow marines alike. It also helped that he had the Gorosei’s propaganda backing him up.
Even as a captain at the age of 19, he had begun to declare war against slavery and discrimination. He became one of the foremost promoters of equality and justice, giving him a lot more popularity and support not just amongst his fellow marines, but the citizens and even some pirates as well. He used his terrible experiences in the past to fuel his determination to see this through.
After only 11 years of service in the marines, he was promoted to Admiral after five bloody skirmishes that ended up with all of the pirates involved dead or in Impel Down. As the youngest and newest of the admirals, Sanguinius –now Miguel or Admiral Gintaka- felt that there was still a lot more for him to prove, especially given his experiences and his past. Now in the present, he has made a name for himself as the coldest of the Admirals, as well as one of the most awe-striking marines there is today.
ADDITIONAL INFOPERSONAL DRIVE: He wants everyone to become equal under the law, no matter the race, gender, or status. No one should be deprived of their rights under the government, or be shunned and ostracized just because of what and who they are. This includes the elimination of the pirate and slaver threats.

MIGUEL VAN HELSING
ABILITIES AND INVENTORY INVENTORYWeapons
- Sin Eater – The Sin Eater is a guan dao that is made longer than the usual in order to accommodate his height. Its shaft is mainly made of iron wood and is black with gold accents, while the blade itself is also black, but with a silver edge. Curiously enough, the blade and part of the shaft can be detached and turned into a sword while the other half becomes just a long stick or short staff if need be. This weapon earned its moniker due to its ability to absorb the force from the strikes it blocks and deflects and send them back at a later period. This is made possible by the impact dial that Miguel installed into the weapon, which enables it to do what it does. When split in two, the dial stays on the short staff because of design and practicality reasons.
Non-weapons
- Ruby pendant
- Sky shark fang bracelet
- Random pocketbook
- Small notebook and pen
- Peppermint candy or leaves
- Baby Den Den Mushi
- White Den Den Mushi
ABILITIES- Bakusai Tenketsu (Breaking Point)- Miguel focuses on a target in order to analyze it and find the weakest points in its structure by any means necessary. Once he has determined what it is, he strikes at it with the exact amount of power and speed needed to break it into pieces or even render it to dust in extreme cases. Due to his mastery of Kenbunshoku Haki, he is able to use this technique on multiple targets at once, increasing the deadliness of this technique.
This is at its most effective with hard and rigid substances, like rock, metal, wood, and crystal. However, this technique does not work well –or at all- with flexible and/or squishy things like rubber or clay. It also does not work with liquids and gases for obvious reasons. As for beings composed of flesh and bone, the attack would usually give multiple fractures to bone at least and pulps it to dust at worst, while at best the flesh would receive some tearing and severe blunt force trauma.
This technique is also hindered by the size of the opponent’s weakest point. That is because if it is too small to hit, it becomes nothing more than a normal strike.
- Kijin (Fierce God) - There are two parts of this technique. The first strike is used to remove the opponent’s guard and unbalance them by utilizing a powerful punch that unleashes a powerful ki wave that’s usually seen as a hooked fang. The other fist then strikes, laced with a much higher amount of ki than the first part that manifests around his fist like a spear.
- Iaeiros (Whom God Enlightens) – While Miguel has always had impeccable intellect and reflexes, this ability allows Miguel to double his reaction-speed, thought processes, and analyzing speed while in battle, allowing him to move, react, and learn even faster than he normally could by going into a special battle trance that he had developed over the years of his service to the marines.
It is very important to note that this technique does have a weakness - - the range of all his senses. Specifically, his enhanced reaction time only works as long as the target is within range of at least one of his senses. If they are out of his range, then he isn’t aware of them and therefore can’t react to them.
- Kenbunshoku Haki – For Miguel, this ability is also known as Mantra. Despite his youth, he has mastered Kenbunshoku Haki to the point that he has the ability to sense every living creative within a sphere of 250 ft. Not just their general presence at that, but their strength, emotions, and even their very nature. He doesn’t need murderous intent in order to predict someone’s moves and attacks, but they have to be within his range. However, one must note that he can’t sense inherently random attacks.
- Busoshoku Haki –This Haki enables the user to create a force akin to invisible armor around themselves. Like Tekkai, it acts as a defense against attacks that would otherwise harm the user.
However, it isn't just a shield. It is also a weapon that can be used by augmenting the user's attacks, imbuing it in weapons to make them more effective, or even project it ahead as pure brute force. Any attack enhanced by this type of Haki will be much stronger -immensely so, in fact- than it would be without it.
This Haki can also bypass the powers of a Devil Fruit user, touching the substantial body beneath whatever protection the Devil Fruit powers provide, like with Logia users. However, it can't negate Devil Fruit powers like seastone does, allowing them to defend themselves and continue fighting normally. More than bypassing Devil Fruit powers, it can also harden parts of one's body (or the entire body), turning the area black and making the user denser and more formidable by giving their attacks greater power. - Kami-E – This technique allows the user tomake their bodies become limp in order to avoid attacks and float like a piece of paper. In those few seconds, the users are able to gain paper-like edges and proportions, meaning that they actually become flat.
- Kusanagi (Grasscutter) – The user applies Busoshoku Haki onto their limbs while using Kami-E. This enables the user's limbs to become sharper than most swords and work either as a piercing or slashing implement. However, hitting them hard enough will cause dents to appear on their form, similar to metal. Once they return to formal shape and form, the dents will disappear and be replaced by bruises. The larger the dent the larger the bruise, and the deeper the dent, the more severe the bruise.
RACIAL FEATURES- Enhanced Physiology – As a Shandian, Miguel’s body is naturally adapted to flying. As a consequence, his body is much tougher than that of a human in order to withstand the friction and impact forces associated with constant high-speed flight. His eyes in particular are immune to the constant wind force and friction that he is forced to endure when flying, especially at high speeds.
In order to be able to breathe at the high altitudes he flies in, he has a special membrane in his lungs that helps extract oxygen from the very thin air and prevents residual volume issues. This allows him to breathe normally high up and helps out his endurance by giving him more oxygen to use, especially at ground level.
He has virtually no body fat and he has extremely strong muscles in order to compensate for the fact that his bones aren’t hollow. Because of that, he has superhuman strength in order to be able to lift himself with his wings and even to just move with those admittedly heavy wings at all. While the rest of his body is strong as well, the strongest parts of his body are undoubtedly his wings. This strength enables him to be able to tear iron apart with his bare hands and shatter small ships with a hit from his wings just by using raw force.
