BACKGROUND It was during this time that Rei developed a reputation as something of a troublemaker among the remaining citizens, who had become superstitious because of the plague. After accidentally eating the Hie Hie No Mi and gaining the abilities of a Devil Fruit user, Rei was labeled a 'witch' and shunned by most of those on the island. She took the resentment in strife, no matter how badly it hurt and pretended to relish in the wariness many had of her. Around thirteen or so, she made the mistake of stealing from an old man named Sinclair, an outsider to the island and the North Blue. After learning what had occurred and why she had resorted to theft, Sinclair took the child in. He soon discovered she was surprisingly intelligence and began teaching her how to fight, after witnessing how badly she had been mistreated by the villagers and wanting her to be able to defend herself. Sinclair remained on the island with Rei for several years and instilled a deep sense of adventure in Rei with his tales of the Grand Line and of the former Pirate King. However, when she was seventeen, Rei learned that Sinclair had come to the island knowing he only had a short time to live. Unable to find a cure for his chronic illness and weary of the futile search in his old age, Sinclair instead chose to make his peace and leave his mark on the next generation through his apprentice. Despite some protest from Rei, Sinclair comforted her with the knowledge that everyone had to die. It was then that she swore to do something to surpass even death, to become famous and make her name known by becoming the next Pirate King. In loyalty to her master, Rei remained with Sinclair for another year, until his death when she was eighteen. Having no other family and considered an outcast by the rest of her hometown, Rei left the island and never looked back. She founded the Black Moon Pirates with the intent to seek out crew members and make her way to the Grand Line to find One Piece and fulfill her goal of becoming the next Pirate King. The front blade is about a foot long, which the diamond shaped blade on the end measures four or five inches in length. Despite the weapon's size, Rei has learned to wield it with incredibly efficiency. The Guan Dao can also be broken down into two sections, making it easier to carry when on land. ABILITIES Strength - While Rei may be smaller than most physically, she possesses a great deal of physical strength that was developed from a daily regiment of training as a child. It is this strength that allows her to wield such a large weapon with relative ease and fluidity, allowing her to best most average men in contests of strength. High Intelligence - A trait developed from years of study and reading any books she could get her hands on. Rei could be considered a genius in many senses and has a vast knowledge of various fields including battlefield tactics, mathematics, history, medicine, and even astronomy. While not as obvious as other abilities, it said that this trait tends to set her apart from many of your average pirates. Kenbunshoku Haki - This form of Haki, also known as Mantra in certain parts of the world, allows the user to sense the presence of others, even if they are concealed from view or too far to see naturally. Rei can also use this Haki to predict an opponent's moves shortly before they make them, thereby making the attack that much easier to evade. This prediction appears to the user as an image or brief "premonition" of what the opponent will do in the user's mind's eye, and the damage the user will take if the attack actually "hits". This type of Haki can also be used to allow Rei to gauge the strength of someone from a distance without engaging them and to sense the emotions and natures of those around her. Busoshoku Haki - This type of Haki allows the user to create a force similar to an invisible armor around themselves, allowing the user to defend against attacks that would otherwise cause them harm.Naturally this "invisible armor" can be used as a weapon to strike others with. It can even be used to augment the user's own attacks, projected ahead of the user, or imbued in weapons to increase their effectiveness, with some attacks capable of penetrating solid stone. This type of Haki also has the ability to bypass the powers of a Devil Fruit user, such as those of a logia. However, unlike seastone it does not negate a user's Devil Fruit powers, allowing them to defend themselves, and continue fighting normally. RACIAL FEATURES Heightened Agility - Rei may appear normal enough, but she is known for being incredibly light on her feet and is capable of moving rather gracefully at breakneck speed over short distances, often proving that her hands are not the only thing quicker than the eye. However, it was seeing this agility in action that earned the epitaph 'The North Wind' from the Marines and World Government. Accelerated Healing - An unusual ability that allows Rei to recover more rapidly from wounds or injuries than most normal humans. On average, she can heal 3-4 times faster than your average person, making her much more difficult to kill and allowing her to withstand a greater amounts of damage in combat than others. Like her speed, the reason for this difference is often blamed jokingly on genetics, though the true source is unknown.
