On the poor island of Namakura, the witching hour was at hand. Cool gusts of wind made the beaten buildings creak. The small town, repeatedly raided by pirates and other criminals, was only barely in living condition, yet people persistently stayed in their homes. Occasionally, travelers from near and far would wander here to see if they could help the locals... or give them the finishing blow. Rumors claimed that the people of this town were into occultism, trying to summon a demon to protect them. Most people laughed at such rumors, but some found them intriguing enough to investigate in person. One such person was here tonight.
A lone figure calmly walked down the street, humming a small, somewhat eerie tune that was carried along by the gentle wind. The moonlight drew the dark silhouette of a small girl with unusually long twin tails, dressed in a large dress and carrying a big parasol. She stopped for a moment to admire the moon and the pale light made her red eyes glow. "My, my... The full moon is simply beautiful tonight." Her content whisper was easy to hear in such perfect silence, but she didn’t expect anyone to be around to hear it. She would’ve loved to have pleasant company, but most of the humans had headed to sleep already. Pity.
Lucia von Frevel, a former noble and a current pirate, had come here in hopes of finding someone who could tell her more about these rumored demon summoning rituals. So far she hadn’t found anything really. Oh well, she could always just enjoy a peaceful walk in the moonlight. Unfortunately, that thought jinxed it, because the peace didn’t last long. Something suddenly exploded and a bright flash of sparks erupted in the distance, like a mass of fireworks had misfired. Lucia stopped to stare at the sparking column that soon faded away. A small, mischievous smile played on her lips. Perhaps she could find company after all.
With that thought, she headed towards the source of the flash.
When the curious girl arrived at the scene, she was greeted by the sight of countless unconscious people scattered in a circle of sorts. The group consisted of a colorful group of men and women, young and old, but they were all wearing the same dark robes. Carefully stepping over them, Lucia observed the situation. Luckily, none of them seemed to be injured, just covered in amusing amounts of soot. She stopped to stand in what looked like the center of an explosion, making a curious discovery. There were some odd symbols on the ground, drawn with blood it seemed. They formed a clear circle pattern and in the middle was a little smoking box. How very peculiar.
Soon enough, however, the first victims started returning to their sense.
The people gasped when they noticed who, or what was now standing in the middle of their circle. Some of them looked at the small, pale, red-eyed and oddly dressed girl with fear in their eyes, while some seemed hopeful, happy even. An old man, wearing what Lucia assumed to be the garb of a head priest, seemed especially overjoyed. He turned towards others, raising his hands towards the sky with an enthusiastic declaration. "Behold, my dear brothers and sisters! Our summoning spell worked! The dark ones have brought a succubus to our aid!" Following their priest’s lead, all the cult members fell on their knees and bowed their heads.
Lucia could barely contain her joy. She didn’t quite understand what these odd people were doing, but she was undeniably flattered to be compared to a demon of desire. Finally, someone paid attention to how mature she had grown. Sadly, it wasn’t proper to assume false reputation. Smiling kindly, the polite girl shook her head. "While quite flattering, your assumption is mistaken. I am not a succubus." The head priest, however, wasn’t deterred by this. "My deepest apologies, I should have recognized you, o’ mighty spirit of vengeance, Onryō." By now, Lucia could feel an abnormally large sweat drop forming. "Ah, I am not a spirit of vengeance either." Were all humans here this odd?
Finally, the priest lifted his head, looking somewhat lost. Lucia opened her mouth to explain, but suddenly the old man perked up again, having caught the gleam of something white and sharp. "No, of course not! Forgive me my impudence, milady! You are clearly a powerful and noble vampire!" Lucia’s mouth twitched. That was the last straw. ...Well, almost. If he hadn’t mentioned those wonderful compliments first, she would’ve slapped him silly for using that insulting title. For now, the irritated girl settled for a simple and quite loud protest. "I am not a vampire!" Her annoyed yell echoed through the quiet street and it was a miracle if no one lost their sleep.

Cool air, night sky, and a beautiful moon. Three fantastic things that would make any sailor happy to be out at sea, where the stars are the brightest. Sadly, however, the view was slightly ruined because of the fact that the one particular person who was admiring such things was not at sea. He and the crew he was with were docked at Nakamura Island, which was not the most… attractive or friendly place. “Summoners” and cultists called the island home. Or, at least, they did since the big fallout of many years prior. There was almost no hope for the island.
Ascalon wasn’t too sure why Hell Mask decided to dock at this particular Island, but they did. He wasn’t really in a position of “power”, per se, so he couldn’t really argue the choice. The cyborg found himself sitting in the crow’s nest, staring at the stars. He was ready for the event that anything might happen, but that came with being one of the protectors on the crew. Not like much ever really happened though. I wonder what would woo Undine… Ascalon said to himself as he ran a hand through his hair gently. That woman. He couldn’t get her out of his mind.
What could, however, move her from the front of his mind was a sizeable flash in the distance. Some action. A smirk came to the male’s face as he jumped up, attached his wings, grabbed his spear, and took off in the direction of the flash.
The cool air felt good against Ascalon’s skin as he cut through it on his flight. He just about lost himself to just flying aimlessly because of how good it felt. Though a rather loud yell, which sounded like someone screaming “I’m not a vampire”, snapped him out of the daze he was bound to fall into. The yell sounded angry, or irritated at the very least. And it seemed to come from the source of the flash. Maybe there was a mix-up with the cultists? At the origin, Ascalon could see a ring of people with one standing in the middle. The one in the middle held what looked like an umbrella.
Ascalon set up for a dive. The quicker he got there, the better. As he descended, Ascalon activated all of his jets to reach maximum speed before letting up and lifting off of the dive right before he hit the ground so as he could land on his feet safely. Upon landing, he realized what happened immediately. The umbrella person was the doctor of the Hell Mask and, as Ascalon had heard, she looked a lot like a vampire.
So… Everyone alright here? Ascalon asked, obviously unsure of what to say. After a moment, he realized that he just put himself in an awkward position. A man wearing a robe and carrying a spear came down from the sky with wings on his back. If they mistook someone else for a vampire, what were they do suspect with him? Uh… right, yeah, I’m just a person. Just a person.

Before Lucia could protest further or the cultists could insist otherwise, a new arrival literally fell from the sky. Another gasp sounded from the crowd as they all took a step backwards. Lucia took the opportunity to calm down and handled the arrival like a proper noblewoman should, with just a curious glance. This person, a young man with a tanned skin, a spear and wings, seemed quite familiar. Yes, she had surely seen him around the ship. His name escaped her, but that was only natural as they had never been properly introduced. Her lips curled into a sweet if bit ominous smile. Oh, she would absolutely love to become acquainted with this handsome man.
Perhaps they could become even more.
Approaching the slightly awkward man, Lucia greeted him with a polite smile. "Good evening, my dear friend." She glanced at the spear and leaned closer with a mildly teasing tone. "Were you worried about my safety? How sweet of you~" At the corner of her eyes, she could see the oddly dressed people whispering amongst each other. They seemed even more scared now. "I assure you I am in no danger, but I’ll gladly accept your... Mufufufu... company~" She was quick to slip her small fingers around his hand, clinging onto him gently. For some reason, he didn’t feel warm like most people, but she didn’t mind. Her skin had long since turned cold as well...
Tonight was simply so chilly.
Meanwhile, the cultists saw the scene quite differently. Even the old priest was having difficulties believing it. "U-unbelievable..." Soon enough, however, he got happy enough to tear up a little. Facing his followers, motioned them closer for another bow. "Rejoice, brothers and sisters, for even an angel of death has graced us with his magnificent presence! We are saved!" People dropped onto the ground, repeating things like "thank you", "we are forever grateful" and even few terrified mutters of "please don’t kill us". The two pirates had been practically surrounded by the worshipping cultists who had completely ignored the young man’s claim. They just wanted to believe otherwise.
A quiet, girly snicker escaped from Lucia’s lips and she glanced at her crewmate, smiling playfully. "Mufufufufu~ Angel of death, hm? Quite fitting, don’t you think?" Her eyes twinkled in the moonlight as her gaze lost focus and she slowly floated into the world of daydreams. The area around her simply vanished, replaced by pleasant, pink-shaded images. Enchanted by her beauty, this handsome man would scoop her into his strong arms and fly far, far away. He would show her a whole new world from a fantastic new point of view, finally leading her into a miraculous garden among clouds. There, he would propose with a marvelous ruby ring and she would accept without hesitation. Together, they would-
"Together, the angel of death and the vampire lady shall protect us from those evil criminals!"
Lucia’s lovely daydream was shattered when she heard the insulting nickname again. Her eyes narrowed to an icy glare as she scoffed at the cultists. "I strongly advice you stop that. If you call me a vampire one more time, I cannot be held responsible for the consequences." Unfortunately, she wasn’t very good with threats, but she needed something to discourage these odd people. She didn’t want them accidentally thinking that calling her by that insulting label was in any form acceptable. "As I’d rather not dirty my hands, I might have to bite you." Of course, she wasn’t serious, but the realistic option, slapping them until their cheeks were red, didn’t sound very threatening.

Ascalon was greeted upon arrival by his crewmate, of whom he knew very little of. The two had never been properly introduced and Ascalon never needed a doctor (as the 5% of him that was human couldn’t really be helped if anything were to happen to it), so he never visited the medical ward. Good… night, I suppose? Ascalon replied to the woman’s kind greeting. That is, Ascalon had to assume she was older than she appeared. He doubted Nanashi would put a child in harm’s way. What came next was the doctor teasing the male with her speech. She asked if he was worried about her safety and that that was sweet. But… I di… Ascalon tried to say that he didn’t even know she was there, but the woman cut him off. She continued to reassure him that she was in no danger, but would accept the company. Ascalon couldn’t very well let a woman walk around so late by herself. Especially not in such a strange and unusual place. No telling what could happen to her. Oh, ok. I can be your company. The cyborg said with a laugh after realizing that the woman was now holding onto his hand. Strange girl, this one was.
Sadly, while the conversation between the cyborg and the woman was going on, the cultists were getting more ideas. Immediately upon looking up, Ascalon could see that they appeared more scared than before. Then their new idea spewed from their mouths. According to them, Ascalon was the Angel of Death. If both of Ascalon’s hands weren’t occupied, his head would be buried in his palms. For the most part, Helios was happy to help people. He loved to help people, in fact. But, from stories he had heard, helping the people of this island was nearly impossible. Either too many problems or they drove you out and tried to turn to the dark arts. Though, perhaps Ascalon’s companion had a point. Maybe “Angel of Death” was a fitting title for him. He was known to just drop out of the air and end enemy life spans. Please… don’t encourage them. Ascalon whispered, but it appeared as though his companion was lost in thought. Her eyes seemed content to be locked upon him; so he could only wonder about what.
Then the cultists called the female a “Vampire”, which was apparently a touchy title for the woman. She did threaten to bite them though. Helios was unsure why she chose that threat. It didn’t help her much. Uh… yeah… About that… Um… Lucia, I believe? My name is Ascalon, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Is there anything you needed while you were out here? Ascalon asked the woman, shaking her hand after introducing himself. While shaking her hand, he looked her up and down, taking in how she presented herself. Strong posture and elegant clothing. Not what he expected of a doctor, though it was fitting for her, it seemed.
Angel of Death! Will you please aid us in our cause!? The cultist called to Ascalon, pleading almost. All of the other cultists were laying prostrate before the two. Look… I’m not an Angel of Death, I’m just a… modified human. And she’s not a Vampire. He answered, trying to reason with them on some level. He knew they wouldn’t listen. Any ideas? He asked his companion.

Much to Lucia’s delight, the handsome young man actually knew her. He even had the manners to properly introduce himself. How very charming. "Oh, you remember my name? I am flattered~" With a coy smile, she bowed her head for a quick, well-practiced curtsey. "The pleasure is mutual, Ascalon." On the question of needing anything, she just shook her head. "Ah, nothing particularly. I am just taking a little midnight stroll as I often do." While Lucia didn’t know about it, the rumors about her nightly walks were already whispered among the Hellmask crew. Perhaps it was better this way. She wouldn’t have liked the most common rumor one bit.
The small woman turned her gaze towards the cultists, sounding ever so mildly disappointed for a moment. "I came here because I was simply curious to see if the locals had managed to summon anyone I would recognize. Unfortunately, this is all I could find." Sighing she turned her eyes towards the moon. "A pity, really... It’s been some time since I last spoke with my relatives on the other side." Rather than elaborate the eerie comment at all, she instead chose to answer his question about suggestions. "Only one, I’m afraid. We can just let them be and leave. They appear rather harmless." With that, she turned to leave, intending to drag Ascalon with her.
Finally, the priest seemed to accept the fact that these two had no intention of helping them. Nodding rather solemnly, the old man bowed once more for Ascalon. "I understand, Angel. You must be busy with matters we mortals cannot comprehend. We are sorry for taking your time." However, when he looked towards Lucia, his tone turned surprisingly fierce. "But! We can’t let you walk free, vampire. You don’t belong in this world. We must send you back to where you came from, lest you start spreading your corruption." He reached out to grab Lucia’s shoulder rather forcefully, which along the insult was the last straw...
Lucia stopped on her tracks and her whole body twitched. Closing her eyes and gritting her teeth, she let go of Ascalon’s hand and folded her umbrella. Slowly, an ominous purple aura started burning around her. When she opened her eyes, they were glowing red like demonic embers and even her voice got briefly distorted, like three different entities were speaking at once. "I... am not... a vampire!" In an instant, she spun around and swung the folded umbrella like a baseball bat, slamming the poor priest right through the nearest walls. Pointing the spike of her umbrella at the other cultists, the scorned woman let out a spine-chilling hiss with her fangs bared, for a good measure.
After the cultists had taken the hint and escaped screaming, the small woman turned to face Ascalon, still with the dark aura blazing around her. When their eyes met, he could’ve seen the absolute rage burning within her crimson orbs. "Now..." She quickly glanced away and took a deep breath to calm down. All the traces of demonic power vanished just as quickly as they had appeared. Opening her umbrella again, the small woman tilted her head and voiced a polite question. "Would you like to join me on my stroll under the lovely full moon, Ascalon? I would love to chat more with you." Smiling sweetly, Lucia pretended that absolutely nothing unusual had happened.

Not quite sure what Ascalon was expecting to hear as far as why Lucia was out at that hour. He had heard of how she liked to take midnight walks, though never knew why. Maybe she had insomnia or something. The main characters of some of the books he had read had that, or so it seemed. Lucia’s reasoning as far as what she wished to gain from being out on Namakura Island was not exactly what Ascalon expected. Something about potentially talking to some of her relatives from “the other side”, as she put it. Ascalon could only assume what she meant from that. Needed cultists probably meant that she was… from another plane of existence. Or something like that. Whatever it was, it didn’t really matter. Though, Lucia and Ascalon had a very similar idea of what to do next. As much as Ascalon wanted, and loved to, help people; he wanted to get out of there. Quickly. Delusional “summoners” gave him the creeps.
Though the cultists seemed to have one more thing to try to pin on the two before they were allowed to leave. The cultists were happy to let Ascalon leave, but “the vampire” had to die. As she was corrupt and evil, or something. Yeah. That wouldn’t happen on Ascalon’s watch. But before Ascalon could push the cultist who grabbed Lucia back, Lucia dealt with him herself. She used her umbrella to put the cultist through the nearest walls. So she wasn’t as weak and frail as she appeared. She put out this wicked aura. Her voice changed too. She sounded like… a demon. So that’s what she was, maybe. Not a vampire. Lucia scared the cultists away with a hiss before she turned back to Ascalon, still furious it seemed. The “seemed” changed to “definitely” when Ascalon looked into her eyes. Absolute rage. Furious anger. An emotion he, himself, had beaten down into almost non-existence. Ascalon wasn’t afraid, though. Though, he had seen a lot in his life, he always figured being right next to a demon, of some sort, would bring out some fear. Maybe intentionally plummeting hundreds of feet in most combat knocked fear out of him. Or maybe he just knew the direction of Lucia’s anger. There really was no telling. In fact, during most of Lucia’s fit of rage, he was giggling. Someone so prim and proper turned on a dime and knocked a guy through not one wall, but multiple walls. That amused him a bit. Everything seemed to amuse him.
Lucia’s anger didn’t last very long, however. A few deep breaths and she appeared to be back to normal. Yeah, I could go for a walk. I’d like to chat with you too, actually. Ascalon said in reply with a big goofy smile. However, he wasn’t all too sure about where they’d walk. Just… around, he guessed. Actually… How about this? Ascalon asked before he suddenly scooped Lucia up into his arms and took off into the air. In just a moment, he landed atop a rather tall building with just enough room for them to sit and stare at the moon while they chat. Helios set the woman down and started laughing to himself. Hope I didn’t scare you. I just figured it might be a bad idea to be on the streets after that. Plus, the moon is beautiful. Ascalon said, the sentence peppered with small laughs. He should have probably given more heads up before suddenly taking off.
So, Lucia. I’m sure you have questions about me. Or I could be wrong. I don’t really know. Helios admitted with another laugh before taking a seat on the roof, allowing his wings to extend slightly and his spear to rest on his shoulder.

It was quite pleasing to hear that the young, handsome man indeed wanted to chat some more. Lucia loved company, especially from the good-looking members of the opposite gender, but for some reason none of the crewmembers wanted to spend time with her. Sometimes she even felt like they were afraid of her for some silly reason. Well, at least Ascalon was different, a brave and understanding gentleman among ruffians. With a little luck, he would be charmed by her beauty and confess his undying love right here, under the magical moonlight. After the romantic stroll, they would return to the ship, sneak into her cabin and then... Ooh, the mere thought of the pure passion was making her blush.
Hover, before Lucia could slip too deep into the dirty daydream, Ascalon suddenly lifted her onto his powerful arms. She let out a surprised gasp, but didn’t actually mind the sudden gesture. In fact, she enjoyed it, for a very short moment at least. "Oh, my~ How romaaaaAAAAAAAAAAH!" The shrill scream echoed in the night when they suddenly took off. Her umbrella got left behind as she instinctively wrapped her arms around the man. She clung onto him desperately even for a while after they landed. Only when he laughed, she seemed to snap back into reality and dared to let go. Her knees were still shaking from the shock and her face seemed even whiter than usual.
The trembling girl looked at the laughing man with teary eyes and an angry pout. "You, you... dummy!" She aimed a quick slap at his cheek, mysteriously only as strong as one would expect from a small girl. "Why would you scare me like that?! I almost pe-" Suddenly, she clapped her hand over her mouth and looked away sheepishly. A faint blush appeared on her cheeks. In her irritation, she had almost said embarrassingly much, but luckily managed to push it aside. "Tch... Never mind... My point is that you can’t just grab a delicate maiden and suddenly rush off like that." Her eyes twinkled in the moonlight as she tried her best to make him feel guilty.
"Why couldn’t you be gentle and romantic, like a true gentleman?"
With an annoyed sigh, Lucia folded her arms and turned her back to the relaxed man. It was carefree jokers like him that irritated her to no end. They never seemed to understand that the fragile feelings and fears of a fair maiden were not toys. "Hmph, if you have no decency to apologize properly, then you are a sad man and I have no desire to speak with you further." But... perhaps she could give him another chance... because he was handsome... Glancing over her shoulder, the young woman continued rather coldly. "However, if you are regretting you actions, like you should, then go retrieve my umbrella, joker." She closed her eyes and hoped he would get the hint.
"Perhaps then I might forgive you."

Lucia reacted to the sudden take off in a… less than desired way. It seemed to scare her more than Ascalon had thought it would. What with all the lecturing and the fact that Lucia even slapped him, though the slap was extremely light. For pretty much the whole time Lucia spoke, Ascalon tried to say something, but it mostly came out as: I d… I uh…. Ye… Sor… He was trying to be polite and not interrupt, but it seemed to just make him unable to say anything. He was actually starting to feel bad. He never really thought about jumping with non-Dragoons, before. He often forgot how sensitive some people were about suddenly being so high in the air that the fall could kill them. He wasn’t because, well… that’s how he fought.
Once Lucia was done speaking; Ascalon looked off the side of the building, staring at the ground below. Well… I am sorry, if that means anything. The cyborg said to the woman before kicking off of the building and diving down to the street below, his jets allowing him to fly just above the ground, all the way back to where they were before. Upon seeing the umbrella from a few yards back, Ascalon readied his hands to catch the parasol and kicked his jets into high gear. He shot like a bullet, grabbing the umbrella and lifting off of the ground back to the sky. Moments later, he was back on the rooftop with his companion.
And here’s your umbrella. Ascalon said to the woman as he handed her the sunshade, then returned to his seat. I really am sorry about that, Lucia. I’ve never really had to jump with another person outside of combat, where jumping like that is a good thing to do. He said with a set of small laughs. Though, from the books I’ve read, I thought that delicate maidens liked being whisked off of their feet and carried to another destination by some bloke in shining armor. Though, I wouldn’t really say I’m some bloke in shining armor. He said with a small chuckle, trying to poke at Lucia a bit.
I’m happy to carry you back down to the streets, if you want to continue your walk without me, though. I understand. He added, feigning guilt and sorrow.

Lucia turned her head ever so slightly when the man apologized, but remained chillingly silent. Well, at least he wasn’t completely spineless, but it would take more than that to earn her forgiveness, even if he was heart-meltingly handsome. She glanced after him curiously as he took off. His flying was impressive, she had to admit. The light-hearted man returned just as quickly as he had left. Upon being offered her dear umbrella, the upset girl snatched it back without saying a word and turned her back to the man again.
Only when Ascalon poked Lucia, her pout finally wavered. His words about a bloke in a shining armor lit a faint blush on her cheeks simply because it was true. If he hadn’t been so careless with his speed, it would’ve been delightfully romantic. It was such a pity he had to be so tactless. Letting out an annoyed sigh, Lucia finally looked the apologetic man in the eyes, blissfully unaware of the feigned guilt. "Sheesh... Fine, I’ll only forgive you because you are so pitiful... Not because I like you or anything... So don’t get the wrong idea, mister." Clearly flustered, she nervously fiddled with the handle of her umbrella and looked away.
After remaining awkwardly silent for what felt like a small eternity, Lucia glanced at the man and whispered carefully. "But... it would be nice if you kept me company..." In all honesty, she had been quite lonely after leaving home. She didn’t know most of the crew all too well and they didn’t spend much time with her outside of medical matters. Even when she politely asked them to join her on a nightly walk, they always were too busy with something. Gathering her thoughts, she voiced a solemn question. "You’ll stay for a bit longer, won’t you?" The loneliness was reflected in her gaze and voice. Even after the scare, she didn’t want him to leave.
While waiting for his answer, Lucia turned her eyes towards the moon. She muttered a question under her breath, only audible if he was paying attention. "I haven’t seen you in the medical ward even once. Why is that?" It was more of a thought pondered out loud and she wasn’t expecting an immediate answer. "Are you beyond the limits of mortals, like me?" Well, she could already guess the answer for that one. Humans didn’t have wings after all. Deep down, she doubted that he was quite like her, or even anything similar, but it would’ve been nice if they had something in common to talk about. Perhaps then she wouldn’t have felt so lonely.
However, if Ascalon left, he wouldn’t have been around to hear or answer her lonely musings.

Ascalon chuckled a bit after Lucia gave in and forgave him, but only because he was pitiful. Not because she liked him or anything like that. When she spoke, she seemed so flustered. What could give anyone the idea that Lucia liked him? After a good long while of silence, Lucia finally admitted to wanting Ascalon’s company. The cyborg hid a big smile and waited for Lucia to ask, which came shortly after. Something didn’t sit well with him though. Lucia both sounded and looked full of loneliness. Ascalon partly hated his crew every day. They probably alienated the woman for being different. Clueless idiots. A big goofy smile came to Ascalon’s face and he laughed a bit, trying to pick up the woman’s spirits. Sure thing. I’ll accompany you. He said as his legs started swinging in over the ledge.
Helios was waiting for the woman to ask him a question after his answer, and then he heard her. She asked why he never visited the medical ward, though her question was quiet and under her breath. She was worried that he had left, which was evident by her turning to the moon. She continued her question by asking if he was beyond the limits of mortals, like she was. Ascalon giggled a bit and held up his left arm, present it to the woman. His arm slide open slightly, revealing his inner workings. Showing exactly what he was made of. Wires and gears. Metal. I guess you could say I’m beyond the limits of mortals, but not like you. I’m a cyborg. Though, I do know some of the strife you might have faced from humans. Ascalon admitted with a small laugh, musing over his past. How he used to be treated.
Shortly after he finished speaking, his arm closed up and returned to his side. Never understood why humans are so afraid of things that are different from them. But that’s beyond the point. Now it’s my turn to ask a question. He said, looking up to the woman with a big smile. Tell me… What are you? Like… Where did you come from? I’m interested. Helios asked before leaning back and allowing his wings to support him, as if he were in a chair. Lucia disliked being called a vampire, though she did have some of the qualities. He was interested in her origin.

Much to Lucia’s surprise and visible delight, Ascalon had decided to stay. Finally she could smile warmly. It was so wonderful to have company who wasn't afraid that she would eat him or anything equally silly. When the man lifted his arm, Lucia glanced at it curiously. She carefully sat down next to him and leaned closer to better observe the mechanical arm. Was this what Grandfather Jonathan had called a cybernetic body part? It looked much sleeker and more advanced than the clunky, steam powered devices he had described. Well, this man certainly was interesting. She had her doubts about if he could ever truly understand her situation, but appreciated the kind words regardless.
When Ascalon asked about her origin, Lucia was quick push the question aside. She tried her best to retain the warm smile even though the easy-going man had just hit a major nerve. "I am not a vampire if that’s what you are implying." After a short pause to calm down, she had to clarify even further, just to avoid giving him the wrong idea. "Nor a demon, ghost or werewolf for that matter." It was very a touchy subject that got brought up irritatingly often. Furthermore, many people started acting strange after she had answered, suddenly remembering the strangest urgent matters or just leaving without saying another word. That’s why she didn’t like talking about it.
However, Ascalon had admittedly earned points by being so kind... and charming... So, she decided to answer the question anyway. Her answer just might have not been what the friendly man had been expecting. "I am a noblewoman, the youngest member of von Frevel bloodline from Ilusia Kingdom. We are an influential family of nobles, even if the World Nobles like to insist otherwise. Our manor is situated in the Nightmare Valley, just outside of the Forest of Wandering Souls. That is where I am from." Perhaps it had been a small misunderstanding, but as far as Lucia was concerned, she had answered the question exactly. What else could he have meant?
Leaning closer, the young woman smiled mysteriously. "The area is very scenic during full moon. You should visit sometime. We could take a stroll through the forest, just the two of us~" Her seductive whisper was more than a hint that she was already planning it as a date. Her eyes lost focus again as she started slowly slipping into a pleasantly pink dream of her and him. Without thinking much, she voiced the most honest question in her heart at the very moment. "Ascalon... Do you have a girl you like?" As soon as she realized what had just slipped out, she suddenly blushed and glanced away. She needed a quick lie. Something, anything...
"I... I mean, not that I care, but as the ship’s doctor I need to know these matters..."

The cyborg was not expecting the best reaction from his question. As he had seen earlier, Lucia’s origins were a touchy subject for her. He just hoped she wouldn’t vanish or anything. Or hit him off the building. Luckily, though, she answered. “What” she was was left rather open. She stated what she was not but not exactly what she was. She stated that she was of noble descent and spoke of where she was from, which sound like an admittedly beautiful place. He had never been to where she spoke of before, though. Ascalon had a goofy look of joy on his face the whole time Lucia spoke, nodding along with what she said. He replied to her offer to join her on a stroll around her home place with a small laugh. I’d like that. He said after the light laugh.
Though the next question was… interesting. Lucia asked Ascalon if he was interested in any women, but she only asked because she was the medic on board the ship and needed to know that kind of stuff. Romance was a topic that Ascalon got embarrassed about quite often. He awkwardly laughed a bit and scratched the back of his head some before actually answering. Yeah, I suppose you could say that. I like her but she won’t give me the time of day. Helios admitted with an embarrassed laugh. It’s uh… Undine.. Ascalon stated, a slight blush coming to his cheeks.
What about you, Lucia? Anyone you like? He asked, trying to keep the conversation going. He felt that Lucia trusted him, or so it seemed. Which Ascalon liked. He liked making sure that everyone in the crew was comfortable, or as comfortable as they could be. Tell me about yourself, Lucia. What made you join the crew? He asked, wondering that himself. Where did Nanashi come across this woman? It was rare to find a good doctor, let alone a noble.

While Ascalon luckily didn’t seem to think anything odd about Lucia’s question, his answer wasn’t what the noblewoman wanted to hear from any man she had a crush on. She blinked and her fingers twitched, accidentally dropping her umbrella onto the roof. "Undine?" Of course it had to be Undine. It seemed like that shameless siren had bewitched all the decent men in the crew. The noblewoman’s sheer jealousy immediately flared into childish anger. "What does that... that... indecent hussy have that I don’t?!" If she hadn’t been raised to be a polite and proper woman, she could’ve thought of a dozen worse things to call the mermaid.
Completely ignoring Ascalon’s question, Lucia went onto a jealous rant. "I do all I can to keep the crew healthy and in fighting shape, yet no one pays me any mind. All the good men just focus on the..." She brought her hands before her chest, exaggeratedly cupping air. "Boing and boing..." Her upbringing prevented her from saying it directly, but she was sure to get her point across by bouncing her cupped hands. "Of that stupid slave girl. And she even has to flaunt it by wearing nothing but those small seashells!" In all honesty, she would’ve loved to have the same figure and show it off, but she would never admit that out loud.
Taking a deep breath to calm down, as she often did, Lucia folded her arms and scoffed. "Hmph, I don’t even understand why the Captain lets a slave like her run around so freely..." Naturally, she had been brought up to a belief that slavery was a normal thing and that there were certain rules to it. However, that wasn’t her problem with the mermaid. "She is too curvy, uh I mean, too dangerous. I’ve seen what her singing does to the ears of mortals." Envy aside, she was still the crew’s doctor and naturally worried about them. If one crewmember harmed others, she was the first to notice and as such expected to do something about it.
But how could she do anything if everyone seemed so captivated?
An annoyed sigh marked the end of the rant and Lucia fell silent. The storm of emotions still raged within her mind. Even if she was a noble, she had nothing against slaves or merfolk in general, as long as they were modest about their... assets... But Undine... It was a complicated matter. While lost in thought, she had completely forgotten about Ascalon’s question, but nothing was stopping him from asking again, or from speaking his mind on her rant. Now that she had gotten the worst anger out of her system, she would most likely listen.

i don't need a knight so baby take off all your armor! [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width:400px; background-color:#282828; padding:10px, bTable] Another day of being slave to her so-called captain, Nanashi. He had ordered her to stay on the ship for today but of course, Undine is Undine. She wasn't going to listen. So therefore she is now in the ocean near to the ship. She about about to test something and possibly risk her life for it. The aquamarine haired mermaid had a determined look on her face. She was so positive that this was going to work. After all it had beeped so many times before that Undine was surprised that she hadn't exploded up into bits before.
The female looked around her, making sure the area was clear. Undine closed her eyes and manipulated the water underneath her. Suddenly, Undine shot out into the air from the propelling force of the seawater that she had manipulated. Undine opened her eyes wide, realizing that she was shooting through mid-air so fast that she was actually enjoying it. She let out a big whoop of excitement as she heard no beeping. Then suddenly, she crashed into something. In the midst of unexpected chaos. Undine found herself laying directly on to of a man that she hated. Ascalon. Undine let out a growl and ungracefully tried to get up but couldn't due to her tail just now forming into legs.
"Why out of all of the people did I have to land on you perv?" muttered the female, distastefully remembering the time Ascalon had "poked" her in the chest. What a perv. Once her leg transformation was completed. She got up to the feet, using her trident as a support. Undine glanced around, this wasn't where she wanted to be. She was hoping to land in a farther away portion of the ocean. "Stupid idiot.. getting in my way of escaping." muttered the mermaid. She hadn't taken notice of the other female presence nearby. Undine held her trident up to Ascalon. "Don't tell Nanashi about this, or I swear I'll find you and do something unpleasant." said Undine, now bitter that her plan didn't work.

It seemed as though Lucia wasn’t happy with Ascalon’s answer. The doctor flared up and immediately became furious at the idea of Ascalon liking Undine. She went as far as to call her an “indecent hussy”. Then didn’t even give Ascalon the chance to answer or anything. All the cyborg could do was listen and try to keep his anger in check. While she did have a good point about how the whole crew is focused on the mermaid, that was no reason to dislike her. Oh, Ascy… You poor thing. You’re morals won’t let you just stab this bitch and pin her to the wall? I could do that for you, you know? |
[/i] That voice spoke to Ascalon. Then a word escaped Lucia’s lips that Ascalon didn’t believe in. Slave. Some of what Lucia said made it seem like Lucia thought that Undine was… less than she was. Don’t talk about her that way. The male stated rather angrily. He was, apparently, quite protective of people he cared for. Undine has an abrasive personality, but I care about her. I don’t know what it is, I just… I love her. There’s no other word for it. He confessed. He didn’t even know that he loved her before this, it just… came out. Luckily, Ascalon was getting a hold on his anger as he spoke. He couldn’t let it consume him. He had to protect, not injure. Not someone who had done nothing to harm another. Then something strange happened. Ascalon found himself laying on the rooftop because something, or someone, hit him and was now laying on him. He looked down to find that it was, ironically, Undine. The first thing out of her lips was… rather rude. Hey Undine, fancy meeting you here. And I’m not a perv, I keep telling you, I didn’t mean to. Ascalon said almost sheepishly as he scratched the back of his head. The mermaid hopped up once her tail became legs and called Ascalon an idiot for getting in her way. She then warned Ascalon about what would happen if he were to inform Nanashi of how Undine got out. Like he’d do something to hurt her. Don’t worry, Undine. I’m on your side. I keep trying to tell you that and you never believe me. He affirmed the woman before sitting up. Quickly, he realized that Undine hadn’t noticed Lucia at all. Not like he had to introduce the two. Uhh… Undine, join us if you would. We’re just talking and enjoying the scenery.
