Bear in mind, however, that despite his somewhat gullible and trusting nature Hector doesn't let just anyone in to become a true friend. It takes dedication, hard work and a lot of pressure to get him to genuinely open up about himself (due in large part to his secretive nature). [/style] |

THE VINLAND FAMILY
THE VINLAND FAMILY
History/Current Members:
The Vinland family has been one of the most prominent military families in the history of the navy. While not particularly "famous" per-say, they do have a long lineage spanning back quite a number of generations. Nearly every single one of those said generations had a member of the family in the marines, the bounty hunter's guild or in extremely rare cases became a pirate. It is only in the last sixty or so years that the family itself has achieved a level of fame among the world government and pirates alike for being strong yet fair.
For sixty years ago, one legend would be solved to give birth to the Vinland family and perhaps one of mankinds greatest triumphs...
Current Members of the Vinland Family[/u]
Hector C. Vinland(Age: 24): The eldest child of Beatrice and Jacob C Vinland. Trained from youth to be strong at his own request. Was engaged, but fiance was killed when Hector was 18. Distanced himself from his family (despite their protest) to journey the world and "become stronger".
Player:: Hector
Jacob C. Vinland(Age: 86, appears to be in late 20s early 30s): A Vice-Admiral in the world governments military organization "the marines" and the current patriarch of the Vinland family. Jacob is a legend amongst priates and marines alike for his heroic actions in the events of "Paradise Lost" 60 years ago. Considered to be among the best teachers of warefare or fighting by many as well as being one of the fathers for a new generation of marine special forces. Currently is semi-active and running the "MIP" (Marine Investigative Police). Married to Beatrice C. Vinland for roughly 59 years.

The Legend of Eden
"Eden".
For untold years, Eden was a myth of sorts, with many different interpretations. Some said it was the birthplace of the gods. Others said it was a paradise for Sailors who died honorable deaths in battle. These beliefs came and went with the times. However, over the last hundred years or so a sort of "concensus" came into being, born of the swapped stories of pirates and the world government's own study of ruins found in various places around the world. Eden was a place thousands of years ago that was created by an advanced race of humanoids facing immanent destruction. Its purpose was simple enough: it would store what little they had left to act as a "time capsule" that would protect their civilization from the doom it faced and allow them to rebuild when it was over.
This hypothesis, however, was unable to ever be confirmed due to the fact that no one had any idea where Eden was. That, and if the state of the ruins was any indication of what conspired, there was simply no way a single place like Eden could have survived whatever had wiped out Eden's creators. The World Government simply wrote it off as having been completely wiped out. Pirates, however, were not so soon to dismiss the idea, which in retrospect was quite wise.
That is because 60 years ago, A mysterious city-sized ruin appeared in north blue. A ruin that, according to what Archeologists, was in fact the legendary Eden itself. The Archeologists were shocked beyond belief, and it did not take long for various nearby organizations to get wind of this discovery. Which in turn got the information to pirates very quickly.
The news spread like wildfire among pirates, rekindling the telling of tales and creating a massive influx of pirates to north blue heading straight for Eden, hoping to plunder its riches. This movement, according to a rather impressive speech by an unidentified pirate, was dubbed "The Plundering of Eden".
"Gather around, men who think themselves worthy. You think yourselves to be pirates worthy of legend? then listen to my tale and listen well.
Long ago, there was a city in the ocean. A floating city of peace, prosperity and riches. so great did their power grow that the gods, fearing their power, punished this great city by plunging it to the depths of the sea. The people of this city, knowing their doom was nigh, took their most beautiful and beloved priestess, Eve, and sealed her away, leaving her in a deep slumber. With the unthinkably beautiful slumbering woman this great city buried all its most valuable treasures, creating a paradise known as "the garden". leaving it to be untouched by the oceans wrath.
On the bottom of the sea the city and its treasure slept, undisturbed, for untold thousands of years. Waiting...You have heard the rumors. The rumors of the mysterious ruin in north blue that came up from the oceans depths. What else could it be other then the legendary city of Eden itself?!
And we all know what awaits whoever finds the garden first. Riches, power, technology and yes, perhaps even the most valuable thing of them all: unrequited love from a woman of unparalleled beauty and power.
The hunt is on, brigands of the sea! make sail for Eden and plunder the treasures within! Many a pirate may become rich, but only one may have the love of Eve herself!"

-Unknown Pirate, before "The plundering of Eden"-
Needless to say, the world government could not simply stand by and watch. Assembling some of their finest officers and ships, they prepared a fleet of ships to attempt to quell the massive amount of pirate activity and being their own plan...
Paradise Lost
Ruins? Treasure? You misunderstand the purpose of Eden. the things we left behind were merely bait. Gold is but a metal, and technology is but a tool. Without strong hands guided by a strong mind they are meaningless. "Eve" is the real treasure here. As for you, Mr. Vinland...You've made everything possible for the future of mankind, and I thank you for making my dream a reality.
-Corvus, the father-
-Corvus, the father-
The world government, unwilling and unable to simply let the pirates plunder Eden, constructed their own plan. With their fleet in position around Eden, they would send in CP7 (Cipher Poll 7) team on a mission to ensure that Eden did not fall into the wrong hands. This operation, dubbed "Opersation: Paradise lost" had two objectives:
1. Investigate the ruins and find any and all remaining technology and/or personnel and either secure or destroy them.
2. Once a sufficent investigation is completed, locate a sufficient structural weakness in the ruins and utilize a prototype explosive to sink the ruins.
Cipher Poll 7 was sent in, and among its ranks was the rookie Jacob C. Vinland. the Six man (and woman) team braved the ruins of Eden and fought monsters and machines as they made their way into its very depths. In the end, Jacob stood alone where no man had in their lifetime: "The Garden" within Eden. A terrible weight on his shoulders, Jacob pressed on in an attempt to complete his mission and detonate the prototype explosive within Eden. Yes, he would die, but it was a small price to pay to ensure that Eden did not fall into the wrong hands.
Yet it was when Jacob reached the center of the Garden and encountered "Eve" that things changed. Seeing the young woman trapped in an unknown form of stasis, Jacob (both foolishly and out of desperation) became utterly infatuated with Eve and elected against simply detonating the prototype explosive he possessed there and then. He couldn't just let Eve die like that, what justice was there in that? So, Jacob managed to reactivate and unseal the sleeping Eve...and inadvertently set in motion a chain of events that could not be stopped.
For awakening Eve also awakened another individual within the garden: A man identifying himself as Eve and Eden's "Father", Corvus. Jacob was then congratulated as Corvus explained the monumental achievement that the young member of CP7 had achieved.
Corvus revealed that, long ago, his civilization was on the verge of collapse: their society falling apart along with the world around them, the father took it upon himself to seal himself and his own daughter in a massive ship that would await on the bottom of the ocean. Originally, the father had intended for the ship to rise when the natural disasters plaguing the world had ended. When it reached the surface, it would release the decedents of the father's daughter and a pre-selected mate upon the fresh new world. An issue arose when "Adam", the man who the father had selected to be Eve's mate, died before he could board Eden. Seeing that not even his own kind's lifespan could outlive the armageddon on the surface, and lacking the genetic data to restart his race, The father sealed himself and his daughter into stasis and setting the ship into standby.
Eden would then wait until a "sufficiently evolved, intelligent and compatible degree of life" had come to being on the surface, and would rise. Unfortunately, as the ships systems had been damaged from its standby on the ocean floor, it could not actively search for a suitable mate for eve. Instead, all it could do was simply sit and wait for someone to come and reactivate the ships primary power systems and awaken both Eve and Father Corvus. At this point, if the conditions were met, the horrific secondary function of Eden could be activated.
Eden's secondary function? Warship. One fully functional and capable of combat even in its damaged state from stasis. Worse still, it possessed a weapon that would allow it to win its war without needing to fire a single shot: the "forbidden fruit", a biological weapon designed to eliminate sentient life as cleanly and efficiently as possible, leaving behind its resources and architecture for future use. Father Corvus's plan was simple: Once a suitable mate for eve had awakened, He would capture them both and trap them within "the garden" within Eden, The garden being an artificial enviorment suited for starting a new race of humans based on the father's daughter, with the father himself acting as "god": dictating Eve and her mate's genetics, evolutionary path alongside the morals that would ultimately arise from their decendants. Once eve and her mate were trapped within the garden, the father would actiave the forbidden fruit, and slowly clense the world of its current inhabitants so that once society had sufficiently developed within the garden he would simply unleash it and control it as he saw fit from his ship, as he would at that point have worked his way into the role of "shepard" to his people through guiding them.
Once the father had explained his plot, Jacob realized in horror that he had inadvertantly pressed the switch to doom civilzation as he knew it, and had been "selected" through fate, chance and sheer "luck" to become some kind of perverse puppet for the father's gambit.
Jacob narrowly escaped being trapped within the garden with the help of Eve (who, aware of her father's terrible scheme, elected to oppose him). Thanks to Eve's efforts, She and Jacob were able to escape into the depths of the slowly reactivating Eden. At that time, the failure of Cipher Poll 7 to contact the world government caused the marines to take action against Eden in an attempt to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. The resulting battle that took place between the now-active Eden against the combined pirate and marine fleet was a complete slaughter. The advanced technology of Eden simply cutting through ships with ease while in turn sustaining little to no damage from the more primitive tech it was up against. In short order, the marines and pirates were forced to flee the massive ship as it made its slow yet steady death march toward civilization. Meanwhile, within the titanic engine of destruction, Jacob and Eve searched for a way to contact the outside world and stop Father Corvus doomsday plot.
Many more terrible battles ensued: both outside as the military attempted to fight the powerful warship Eden and within as Jacob and Eve attempted to sabatoge/destroy the warship and thwart Corvus and his forces. Ultimately, despite the odds, contact was established between the world government and Jacob, and with the might of the government's navel forces, an elite mercenary fleet of pirates, and sabatoge from within, the father was killed and Eden was disabled, sinking back to the dark depths from which it came. Jacob and Eve barely escaped the sinking wreckage of Eden, bringing an end to the incident as the hell that had been supposedly paradise slowly sank back to the ocean's depths...
