Attire: The only outfit David will ever wear is a combination of a traditional pirate garb and fancier clothes of a nobleman. His black overcoat has a high collar, golden lining and intricate, gold-colored shoulder pads. Underneath it, he wears a white, buttoned shirt and a red, feathery scarf around his neck. On his waist, he has two skeletal arms locked together like a terrifying belt and underneath them hangs a red, sash-like cloth that bears a gold-colored emblem of his family. His simple pants are black to match the jacket and on his feet he wears brown, sharp-toed leather boots. Finally, his outfit is completed by a traditional tricorne hat that bears his jolly roger on the front. All of his clothes are somewhat worn and torn from the countless hardships he has faced.
Abnormalities: The most notable abnormalities are David's bluish gray skin and his pitch-black eyes with small, blue irises. He has a long, stitched scar running down his forehead, across his left eye and ending at his left ear. His ears are also rather long and pointed. BACKGROUND Born as David J Verdana junior, he was the only heir of a noble family from Goa Kingdom. His father, David J Verdana senior, was an influential man with strong connections to the World Government, while his mother, Helena Verdana, came from one of richest noble families. Both were well-known and respected. All in all, young David got his life on a silver platter. His childhood consisted of studying, learning charming manners and being spoiled rotten. Whatever he did, his parents always approved, promising him wealth and success when he became an adult.
Perhaps it is no surprise that David grew up to be a greedy and arrogant noble who could barely lift a wallet full of gold, yet placed himself above the common people. Upon reaching adulthood, at least in some sense, he never actually became a well-mannered gentleman, scholar and noble like his parents had hoped. Instead, he spent his days fooling around with women and drinking until his servants had to carry him home. As far as David was concerned, he was living the life of kings, the very same one he had been promised his whole childhood.
Unfortunately, such luxurious lifestyle didn't last. The incredibly wasteful man had almost managed to drink and party his family's vast fortune by the time he reached the age of 25. Fed up with the constant foolishness, his parents gave him an ultimatum: either he reformed as a proper member of the important family or his name was wiped from the family tree. Unsurprisingly, David refused to let go of his lifestyle and expressed his brutally honest opinion about reforming. ...Only to get unceremoniously kicked out of the mansion on the very same day.
David was absolutely furious about the turn of events. Everything he had been promised was taken away from him in an instant. Marching to the closest weapon shop, the enraged noble bought a cutlass and swore vengeance. If the world refused to give him the luxury he deserved, he would take it by force. Thus, after losing his status as a noble, he decided to take up piracy. There was just one small problem he realized soon after calming down. He hadn't worked a day in his life and didn't even know how to use his new weapon. If he tried to join some filthy pirates, he would surely be robbed and killed.
However, his boundless greed was stronger than his fear or common sense. After a long week of searching and getting laughed at in each lousy pub he entered, the former noble finally found a small gang of pirates who were desperate enough to take anyone. David started at the very lowest bottom, as a cabin boy of a long forgotten crew. He spent longer than he cares to remember, years at any rate, scrubbing the deck and shining weapons, while his so-called friends stole chickens and bullied villagers.
David's big break was when the crew was attacked by another equally pathetic gang. At first, he was going to ran away, but then one of the enemies made a big mistake. They insulted David's outfit. Blinded by pure rage, the former noble used every bit of arm strength gained from scrubbing floors to bash the poor bastard's head in. His crew was so impressed by the feat of violence that he was allowed to join the heists from thereon. Exhilarated by the experience, the former noble dived into the lessons on piracy. He also started fine learning the art of beating people up by brawling with his crewmates at every opportunity.
Nearly twenty years and countless fights later, David had turned into a full-fledged pirate captain with his own ship and a crew he could call friends. He had even found love. They were a force to be reckoned with, but the Captain desired even more. Unfortunately, in his haste to gain fame, he made the biggest mistake an overconfident pirate could make. He killed the friend of a Yonkou. Said Yonkou retaliated with crushing force. The last thing David could remember from the fight was the immense pain of a sword slicing through his skull and eye. His mutilated corpse was displayed as a warning in Loguetown and later retrieved for burial by his family.
Black sheep or not, they didn't want a single noble to be ridiculed by pirates.
Dead and buried, there isn't much for David to remember from that time. He isn't even sure how long he was dead. Maybe weeks or even months... However, he does remember what brought him back. While he was drifting in dark abyss, chilled to his very core by all of his sins, a voice spoke to him. It asked him if he was angry, if he wanted revenge. For the first time after death, David laughed. Revenge? No... He wanted power... Enough power to get far more than just some petty revenge. He wanted enough power to crush the entire world within his grip! Revenge would just be the start of his dreams... The voice laughed and the last thing it asked was if he was ready to sell his soul for such power?
"Yes."
Even to this day, David clearly remembers the night he returned. First, it was just darkness, but his soul was no longer suffering, like it had never even been within him. Eager to move, he stabbed his arm forward, breaking through the coffin and the soil with a single motion. Digging through the surface, he pulled himself free from the ground. It was raining. For a moment, he wanted to gasp for air, but soon found that he didn't need it. The graveyard looked familiar, too familiar. In the distance, he could see the mansion of his family. Every window was lit and music echoed all the way here. Now, he knew exactly what he would do.
The road there had never felt so short.
As the front door flew open, a gust of freezing wind blew in and the whole hall before him fell silent. The sight was unsettling enough to make David senior swear for the first time in decades. "Dear Lord... David? Is it... really you? What the bloody hell is going on?" Slowly, an amused grin crept on David junior's lips as he walked closer. "Funny you should mention hell..." Perhaps it was the blood relation, but at that very moment both Davids could guess what the other one was thinking. Neither was too happy to see the other. In the background, the endless whispers of the distraught guests filled the room.
Suddenly, his old mother stepped between the men, wrapping her arms around the boy and holding as tightly as she could. David had never seen her cry so much. "My dear son... I have missed you... every single day for the past 30 years. We thought you were dead..." Placing his hands gently on his mother's cheeks, he asked a solemn question, one that stopped all whispers. "My dear mother... Do I look like I am alive?" Before she could answer, his eyes flashed with utter hatred. Her spine made a satisfying crack as he violently slammed her against the wall.
Within mere moments, David junior found himself surrounded by countless armed guards, called forth by David senior. They attacked as unstoppable torrent of steel and fury. He was overwhelmed, but... No matter how many times he was shot and slashed, the undead monster just would not fall. One by one, he killed the men swarming him, crushing something with each unrestrained swing. The screaming, disgusting noble pigs were next... and then finally... his father. That night no one left the mansion alive.
After getting his first revenge, David returned to the life of a pirate. He changed his last name to Cadaver as a mocking salute to his old noble roots and his new existence. With his new powers, he gained allies and fame much faster than in his past life. Within 15 years, his crew was in the league to clash safely with other big shots. They focused on robbing entire islands clean and got notoriety for killing any and all nobles they encountered. The World Government and Marines were infuriated, resulting in even worse clashes with no clear winner. Many times he was declared dead, only for him to return again.
One of the Yonkou back then, the very same who had first killed David, took interest in the man now known to the world as the Grinning Corpse. Without realizing the connection, he offered David and his crew a place in his fleet, to which the Undead Captain responded by trying to slice the Yonkou's throat open. Both crews attacked without hesitation and soon it turned into complete chaos. After a vicious battle that raged on for ten days and ten nights, the Undead Captain finally emerged victorious and took the title of a Yonkou, gaining all that came with it. With renewed vigor and even bigger fleet, he started a massive search for the single thing said to make any pirate the ruler of the seas.
The legendary treasure of Gol D Roger, the One Piece.
In the recent years, however David J Cadaver has been forced to put his pursuit aside, as the attempts to find the One Piece have been fruitless. There are simply too many fools doing the same exact thing and getting in his way at every turn, so he has decided to start playing the elimination game. Now, he is out to seek the most powerful people on the seas and offer them a simple choice: join his crew or die. Most importantly, he wants the whole world to know that the Undead Captain is here to stay.
ADDITIONAL INFOPERSONAL DRIVE: David is mainly motivated by his dream to be recognized as the King of Pirates, the single most feared and respected individual in the world. He wants to hold the world in the palm of his hand, admire it for a century or two and then crush it so that no one else can ever surpass him. In short term, he is driven by an endless hunt for all the world's greatest treasurers, including the legendary One Piece.
COMMONLY ASSOCIATED NUMBER: 100. David is quick to remind how many years too early mortals are to challenge him.
REPRESENTED BY THE COLOR: Black, based on his choice of attire and his unusual eyes.
OFTEN SAID TO BE MOST LIKE: Like a shark, David is seen as a dangerous being whose only instinct is to devour his target the second he gets a taste of blood.

DAVID J CADAVER
ABILITIES AND INVENTORY INVENTORYWeapons
- Captain's Cutlass: David's primary weapon is a massive, dark cutlass. It is quite traditional in appearance, having a slightly curved, black blade, dark brown hilt and rounded guard. The blade is lined with Kairoseki, making it extremely sturdy and allowing it to effectively harm Devil Fruit users. He keeps it sheathed near his left hip, where it almost scrapes the ground due to the length.
- Hand Cannon: His second weapon is a breech-loading, double-barreled gun resembling a combination between a pistol and a sawed-off shotgun. The grip and decorative parts are made of dark brown wood, while the metal parts are colored golden. It fires fast and powerful rounds that explode on contact with enough power to shatter stone. Furthermore, it is fairly accurate even at longer ranges. However, it has to be reloaded after every second shot. He keeps the gun holstered near his right hip.
- Cursed Claws: Around his waist, David has two bony arms locked together like a macabre belt with a decorative red ribbon wrapped around them. While they seem human at first glance, both arms actually end in simple sword handles instead of shoulder joints. Beings with sharp senses can feel ominous energy emanating from them. Naturally, they are far more than just a decoration. At David's command, the extra limbs come to life and stick to his body. He can control them even after they have been separated from him, making them ideal for creating surprise attacks. They are able to wield weapons and pummel opponents, but only have the strength of an average human. To make up for that drawback, the arms are tough as steel and the claws are sharp as daggers, able to tear flesh with ease. In addition, they can be combined into a makeshift whip that can latch onto obstacles and opponents.
Non-weapons
- Locket of a Loved One: David always carries a small, silver locket around his neck. Inside, it has an old picture of a young woman with flowing golden locks and a heart-melting smile. Her identity is the only topic in the world the Captain refuses to discuss.
- Skull Ruby: Out of all the treasure in his possession, this fist-sized ruby that has been carved to resemble a skull is his absolute favorite. He never gets tired of telling tale about how he got the ruby, though each time the story is bit different.
ABILITIES- Kenbunshoku Haki: Kenbunshoku Haki is a form of Haki that allows the user to sense the presence of others, even if they are concealed from view or too far to see naturally. With enough skill, one can use this Haki to predict an opponent's moves shortly before they make them, thereby making the attack that much easier to evade. This prediction appears to the user as an image or brief "premonition" of what the opponent will do in the user's mind's eye, and the damage the user will take if the attack actually "hits". It appears that the more killing intent the enemy has, the easier they are to predict. Although, more skilled users can predict future moves whether there are ambient murderous intents or not.
RACIAL FEATURES- Undead Monster: While it's debatable if David is actually dead, many agree that he certainly isn't alive anymore, at least not in the traditional sense of the word. The story goes that he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for eternal life as a Pirate. This deal grants him a horrifying ability to survive and recover in ways that should be far beyond the reach of mortals. His body doesn't age, get hungry or even grow tired anymore.
When it comes to fighting and injuries, he is able to sustain utterly inhuman amounts of damage without so much as flinching. Pain means nothing to him. He can and will keep standing up even with injuries that should be lethal to humans, such as having a gaping hole in his chest or getting half of his head blown off. His body only bleeds dust and any severed body parts can be reattached as good as new after the battle. Rumors claim that he lacks a beating heart and doesn't even need to breathe anymore.
In the past, powerful Marines and Pirates have proven that he will eventually collapse if his body is torn apart badly enough. However, the knowledgeable ones also warn that his cursed limbs can still move and attack for up to few minutes (two posts) after getting chopped off. Despite his demonic power, it often takes him several days to fully recover from worst beatings. So far no amount of damage has been able to kill him for good.
- Creeping Death: When the Undead Captain fights, everyone around him can feel the chilling grasp of death slowly coiling around them. Weaker beings can be mentally paralyzed by the fear of dying caused by this terrifying sensation. Fighters with Kenbushoku Haki can even see thin, ghastly white mist lingering at his feet, reaching out towards anyone who comes near. It is no mere feeling, however, but an actual demonic aura that saps the life force out of anyone within his area of influence.
Living beings begin to slowly lose their strength and vitality until they simply wither and die. The longer someone stays within the aura, the stronger the effects become. Injuries hurt far more, wounds won't stop bleeding and breathing becomes increasingly difficult. When active, this aura affects everything within 30 feet of David, enemies and allies alike. Even Devil Fruit eaters aren't safe. Lastly, the effect grows tenfold if David manages to firmly grab the victim.
However, this effect is completely blocked by even minor knowledge of Busoshoku Haki. The aura preys on the mental weaknesses of mortals, but Haki surpasses that and nullifies the effect. In addition, the aura takes a brief moment to take effect, as revealed by the mist reaching towards and coiling around the affected people. This can be minimized with quick hit and run tactics.
- Unholy Bloodlust: At the start of each fight, David's opponents are in for a surprise. Despite his intimidating size and fearsome reputation, the Yonkou is actually weaker and slower than most humans. In truth, he is unconsciously holding back. However, unlike mortals who eventually grow tired in a fight, the Undead Captain actually grows stronger. He revels in turmoil, enjoying each injury regardless of who receives it and savoring each second he can spend locked in combat. Bloodshed is one of the few things left in the world that makes him feel alive and his opponents can quickly see the terrifying effects.
As the battle rages on, David moves faster and hits harder. The effect begins from the first injury, no matter who causes it. His swings suddenly gain just a bit more strength and speed. It increases with each post in combat, until he reaches his maximum power after six posts. Once Unholy Bloodlust reaches its peak, David becomes powerful enough to overwhelm most giants. Even unarmed, his raw strength will crush unprepared opponents and push the users of Busoshoku Haki to their limits.
His speed doesn't increase as drastically, but he still becomes deceptively swift, able to track and hit opponents that are too fast for human eye. His mighty swings turn into mere blurs and his lightning fast reflexes can surprise even the quickest fighters. Since he lacks the light feet for accurate high-speed movement around the battlefield, as displayed by Soru users, he instead settles for blindingly fast charges that substitute finesse with destructive power. People have compared the rushing Captain to a runaway sea train: too fast to run from and too powerful to stop.
- Demonic Grudge: Similar to Impact Dials of Skypiea, the Undead Captain is able to gather power from getting hit and use it for a massive attack. However, unlike the dials, David doesn't absorb or block anything. In fact, he needs to get hit, the more the better. With each hit that wounds him or his pride, he builds up grudge against his opponents that acts as energy for this ability. The heavier the hits or humiliation, the stronger his Demonic Grudge becomes.
Once David decides he has gathered enough energy, he unleashes it as a nightmarish roar of rage, hate and bloodlust. It takes the form of a thick, dark beam that suddenly cuts across the battlefield and passes through anything it hits. The beam does nothing to harm structures or non-living objects and leaves no visible marks. Against living beings, however, it causes heavy internal damage. Weaker fighters may very well die from the energy tearing through their insides, while stronger victims will cough up blood at the very least. Since the attack targets the opponent's insides directly, it passes through defenses, including Haki. Even Devil Fruit users are not safe from it.
However, this ability is completely depended on how much beating the Undead Captain has suffered in the current fight. He can't use old grudges from other battles for anything. The rage needs to come from the present and little amounts won't do. In addition, there is a moment of preparation, where the Captain takes deep enough breath to make his chest bulge unnaturally before opening his jaw and firing the beam, inadvertently giving fast-thinking opponents a window to get out of the way.
