BACKGROUND Born almost in to his future line of work, Cross was born unto a Pirate captain and her first mate. The Captain was notorious on the seas for, unlike some pirates, actually being a rather hospitable person. She was kind and polite to all the civilians, and was even known to occasionally give a Marine a chance to rethink their actions. To most, she was seen as a kind soul and raised her son as such. Sadly, some found the woman to be weak. Those some were members of her own crew. What was to come didn't happen for a few years, as if they were giving the Captain time to change her ways. During those years (close to 5, making Cross around 8), the young Cross was taught everything he could ever need in the ways of manners and personality. His father taught him a bit, mainly some combat abilities and rough swordplay. In a way, his mother taught the boy how to be a person, and his father taught him to be a warrior. Then it came. The day that the mutiny occurred. The majority of Cross's mother's crew contacted a Marine base and plotted with them to overthrow their captain by any means. To make long story short, the agreement was false. The marines showed up, helped the crew take over (killing Cross's father and removing his mother's left arm), and ended their stay by wiping out the rest of the crew. They believed Cross and his mother to be dead, as the two of them had fallen off the side of the boat and drifted away on the waves. A few days later, the mother and son washed ashore on a nearby island. Come to find out that the island is mostly deserted, except for a small pirate's den on the other side of the island. The two took refuge in a nearby cave, ignorant of the den only a few miles walk away. That was the final resting place of Cross's mother. That dark, disgusting cave. Before passing, she taught Cross all she knew and passed on her dying wish. For the world to be safe for people who couldn't fight. With that wish transferred, the pirate passed and left her son with only a machete and hope. The boy buried his mother, mourned for a few hours, then followed the coast. Driven by hunger, sorrow, and rage, the boy found the pirate's den and was nearly struck down for trespassing. Pirates judging others for trespassing, how ironic. The boy was about to die in a blaze of glory trying to get in for food, until the Pirate captain came out. He could see the drive in the boy's eyes, could see the will and determination. With that, he ordered his men to stand down and feed the young Cross. That started the relationship between Cross Sanguine and his pirate brethren. For quite a few years, Cross learned from the pirates and their captain. He mastered his own style of fighting, as well as strengthened his determination. It was with this crew that he discovered he wasn't like the rest of humanity. He was different. He was what many called a "superhuman". He was stronger than the rest, could swim further than the rest, could endure more, many things. Life was good, until the captain passed. In his dying breath, the captain named Cross to be his successor. From that point on, Cross and his crew lived on the sea, fighting when they were needed to and doing what was called of them. He even found a weapon that was fitting of him, the very same sword he carries. Cross became rather notorious on the seas, even becoming scouted by Marines to become one of their elite "Shichibukai". At first, it was an insult to him. Then he realized that with the freedom being a Shichibukai offered, he could aid the civilians more, even if working for the Marines was against his interest. The blade is basically a slab of metal with an edge and is hollow on the inside. The handle completely black runs the length of the sword. The whole handle might serve some purpose, but Cross has never been able to figure out what that purpose is. Non-weapons A simple silver cross necklace A small den den mushi (hardly ever carried), just to keep in touch with orders or his crew. ABILITIES Busoshoku Haki - Another form of Haki that allows the user to create a force similar to an invisible armor around themselves. This armor can protect the user from attacks and push aggressors away. Similar to Tekkai, precious few can overpower the defenses of a Busôshoku Haki-user, as demonstrated by Luffy striking Marigold hard enough with Gear 2 moves to send her reeling, and Kizaru piercing through Marco with his lasers; it is currently unknown as to what extent or to how long can a proficient user maintain this effect. With training, it can be further honed into a weapon with which to strike others, like the Kuja's arrows. This type of Haki enhances the power of any attack, be it melee or ranged, and also allows the user to bypass the powers of a Devil Fruit user, striking the user's human body beneath whatever protection the Fruit may provide, even in the case of body-altering Devil Fruits such as Paramecia or Logia users. RACIAL FEATURES Gigantis Queritor - Cross has been gifted with strength unlike any human has seen. This helps him with his sword, seeing as it's so heavy. He isn't impossibly strong, of course. Pretty much, he's strong enough to swing his sword with one hand, as if it were a dagger. Ferrum Pulmones - To put simply, his lungs seem to be able to hold air for a much longer time than normal humans. That length being anywhere around 25-30 minutes. Ferae Motu - Cross's legs allow him to dash, in straight lines, a speeds that are completely inhuman. He calls these dashes "Accels" and can chain them together to move in different directions. One Accel can take Cross 10 feet in the blink of an eye, and he can chain 4 (at max) together. He can pull off 5, but he would literally collapse because of it. 4 leaves him very little energy left to use. Aquilae Visus - Cross's eyes are much stronger than a conventional human. His eyes can pick up the most minute of details, making him great at reading body language. He's not quite good enough to read a person's upcoming attacks, but can certainly read people's smallest changes in body language.
