Years of self-experimentation has left him rather insane. This has warped his mind enough to make him fairly unpredictable in a fight. With his thoughts are so difficult to read that any opponent practiced with dealing their opponents through such methods will be unable to keep up with the good doctor. This makes him a powerful asset against methodical enemies who try to think out every move their opponent can make. Genius: Dr. Ego is a clinical genius. He has studied medicine most of his life and is constantly dedicating his time to researching new expansions in the field. With his crazed mind he is able to see the paths of medicine in ways no ordinary doctor ever could. What would seem impossible for someone sane merely seems difficult for the mad. Through sheer creativity and intellect Dr. Ego smashes through the walls of conventionality and performs medical miracles. Determined: Although his goals might become skewed now and then due to his muddled mind the good doctor attacks them with the ferocity of a tiger. There is no telling when he will get sidetracked and pursue some other venture, but while focused on something he never gives up. The doctor will lock himself away for days researching foregoing food, hygiene, and even water. Surviving on an IV drip and caffeine. He is the same in a fight. His reasons might be as crazy as wanting to experiment on his opponent, but he will not falter no matter how much damage he personally takes. Articulate: Being a well-educated man Dr. Ego has obtained a rather broad vocabulary. Although his manner of speech can alter depending on the state of his mind he is capable of brief moments of silver speech. As the good doctor likes to put it, “Human speech is much like the human body. Each organ and limb is crucial for it to function. With the right set of organs though you can make an already working body excel to greater heights. It’s all about having the right collection…. Wait what were we conversing about?” Loyal: Although his loyalty relies heavily on his mindset for the time it is given it is given wholeheartedly. The mad doctor lives by his own strict Hippocratic oath and that oath entails that he tend to his nakama. He will do whatever he can to make sure his nakama stay in the best health possible. Whether that is healing them or fighting with them in battle. Granted, now and then in his mind that also means strengthening them by experimenting on them without them knowing. NEGATIVE TRAITS: Mad: Just as it is a boon the fact that Dr. Ego is mad is also one of his damning traits. There is just no way of really telling what is going on in that brain of his. Attempting to figure him out is quiet useless and his nature is so unpredictable that it can often lead to trouble for anyone he is with. Whether it is waking up one morning and finding out their arms were switched in the middle of the night or being part of a secret clinical test for the Ebola virus without their knowledge. The good doctor’s craziness can often spell trouble for companions as well as enemies. Selfish: It may seem a little counterproductive, but the good doctor is very selfish. Everything he does is because he desires to do so. Dr. Ego has even adopted his own version of the Hippocratic Oath. An oath that does have him tend to the sick and injured, but on his own terms. To him even a doctor’s most solemn oath can be altered to better fit his own desires. If he is doing something you better believe it is for his own gain. That gain might be as simple as a whim, but he always has a reason. Conceited: For a self-proclaimed mad genius there is no surprise that he is incredibly conceited. It is his belief that he is the greatest doctor in the entire world and that all other practitioners of medicine are stifled by their lack of creativity. To challenge his brilliance is an insult to him. As far as he is concerned anything that does not involve what he knows is pointless. Navigating, swordsmanship, repairing ships, cooking, all of that is unnecessary, better to be thrown onto others. He is the smartest man in the world and anyone who does not recognize such must be reprimanded until they realize otherwise. Chain Smoker: The mad doctor has a deep addiction to cigarettes. Now according to Dr. Ego he isn’t addicted in the slightest. The only reason why he smokes so much is in order to discover a cure for lung cancer through his own experiences with the little death sticks. However, that seems more to be an excuse than anything else. More often than not the good doctor can be found with a cigarette in between his lips. It isn’t uncommon for him to go through several packs in one day depending on his level of stress or his activities for that day. Conspicuous: Being a mad man makes it difficult to play the stealthy role. Dr. Ego is boisterous and crazed, a potent combination. He isn’t about to hide who he is and he has broken an awkward silence more than once with a mad bout. This characteristic makes it practically impossible for him to be incognito or practice any sort of stealth. Regardless of where he is or who he is with Dr. Ego is bound to draw attention to himself in some way or another. Hair Color: Gray Eye Color: Cloudy Gray Attire: For a doctor Egon wears some rather shabby looking clothing. Above all his attire he wears a white lab coat, typical for any doctor. The lab coat is stitched here and there is if it were torn in places and then sown back together. The lab coat is the typical length, falling to just about his knees. Underneath the lab coat is a turtle neck in ever more drastic circumstances. The shirt is patched together from what seems to be several different shirts. The turtleneck is patched together in what seems to be black, grey, and even a dark red. The clothing is visibly stitched together by the same thread and needle used in his lab coat and even in his own personal stitches. Egon’s clothing below the waist has managed to stay in better condition than his tops. Dr. Ego wears black jeans for bottoms. The denim pants are worn with age, but still in relatively good condition allowing Egon to stay mobile without fear of tearing any of the material. To keep the jeans secure even while moving in battle Egon wears a dark belt that matches the jeans. The belt is always worn and has a standard buckle, nothing too fancy. Although at times rather uncomfortable Dr. Ego wears leather bound shoes. The shoes are stained black and match both his belt and his jeans. They are worn from years of use, but have managed to last and not tear or rip like his shirt and coat. Overall he appears to be the mad doctor that he is. Abnormalities:There aren’t a lot of genetic abnormalities about him, though with the way he is constantly experimenting on himself that could change eventually. However, his body holds plenty of scars. The scars are not from any fight that Egon can recall though. Rather all of his scarring comes from the constant experimentation that he performs on himself. In order to strengthen his own body Dr. Ego is constantly cutting into his flesh in order to unlock the secrets of the human body and utilize those secrets within his own body. Scars like mini train tracks move along his body and even around his left eye where needlework and suturing have left permanent scarring. BACKGROUND Dr. Ego was born in North Blue on Micqueot Island. His parents had fallen in love in a way only fairy tales seem to play out. Dr. Ego’s father had been a pirate in a very daring crew and had gone almost all across the Grand Line. Dr. Ego’s mother was just some woman he had met along the way and had fallen in love with her. In the end the call of Dr. Ego’s mother was much stronger than that of the sea and after a hearty farewell Dr. Ego’s father left his nakama and went off to seek a life with the woman of his dreams. Dr. Ego’s parents ended up on what would be his future home of Micqueot Island. It was there that the two set up a bistro and had their one and only son, Egon Maximilian. Dr. Ego’s appearance even as a baby was striking and his father was instantly reminded of when he sailed. Though he had never gotten a chance to go personally his crew had met someone who had supposedly been to the floating island of Skypiea. Dr. Ego grew up under his loving parents and was raised to love a fine meal as much as they did. Though he didn’t have the same fervor for cooking that they did he still remained an obedient child who helped in any way he could around the kitchen. Dr. Ego quickly began gaining his own tastes. His parents were simple people who were able to make a good living out of making dishes, similar to those they had seen while travelling the world, out of ingredients found in the North Blue. However, Dr. Ego was raised with tales that filled him with ideas of grandeur. As an island famous for its alcohol it is no surprise that many pirates were attracted to the location over the years. Dr. Ego would meet his fair share of friendly pirates at his parents’ bistro and they would regale him with stories. His father on the other hand would fill his head with all his tales of his own personal adventures. Dr. Ego’s favorite tale had always been about Skypiea. At first the recollection of pirate tales his father had been told was just a way to entertain Egon. However, Egon would become lost in the lore of the island and have his father constantly retell the stories. His father would tell him of the people, the magical technology, and most of all the amazing creatures and foods that could be found there. One day a stranger walked into the bistro. The man was a doctor and had retired as a doctor from the marines to start up a practice on Micqueot Island. He was getting old in his years and was instantly interested in Egon. Apparently the boy’s steady hands while cutting some vegetables had intrigued the doctor and before Egon knew it he was the man’s apprentice. Unlike with cooking Egon devoured the knowledge he gained. He had no idea how intricate the human body was before that day. A machine that worked so tirelessly that even the tiniest virus could cause it to halt and die like a wrench thrown into the gears. As Egon became an excellent doctor himself he began to formulate plans for his own future. He enjoyed working alongside his mentor, but there was still so much unknown about the human body. Hundreds of his questions had gone unanswered by the doctor. It was then that Dr. Ego began experimenting on his own. At first it was on cadavers, but before long he was experimenting in non-lethal manners on various animals and others. It was then that he quickly began to go down the route of insanity. He threw himself into his research and into going beyond what his mentor knew. He recalled the tale of Skypiea and their technology and wondered if that also included medicine. There were things in places like that and on the Grand Line that would hold a myriad of plants and such that if harnessed in the correct way could be fashioned into cures for so many things that ailed the people in the Blues. Egon wanted to go to those places and be the one to research the islands in order to become the greatest doctor in the world. Egon trained his body from that point on. In order to travel the world like he wanted to he knew he would need to become better in every way. He would need to become tough enough to survive the harsh environments and improve his ability to assess injuries and sicknesses to better help people. Though he knew his master would have a heart attack he began training with scalpels using them as more than just tools for healing and experimenting. He trained with anyone skilled with a blade that visited the bistro. He had learned to throw them and wield them like daggers. By the time he was 19 he had even made up his mind on how he wanted to go about seeing the world, become a pirate. If he truly wished to sail everywhere he would need the freedom to do so. Who had more freedom then a pirate? It got to the point where simply training his body wasn’t enough. He turned the scalpel on himself and began strengthening his body any means necessary. Years passed by and his altering appearance as well as personality began to alarm both his parents and master. However, none of that mattered to him as long as he pursued his medicine. He had long since surpassed his mentor had stopped visiting his clinic or his parents’ bistro. Everything was about his own craft now. Eventually he would use what little money he had to sail from island to island until he found a crew that he could be a part of. Silently one night as his parents snored in their beds Dr. Ego snuck out of his house and headed towards the docks. He was sad that his parents would not get to see him rise to greatness, but in the end he would not be able to do much else on their island. There was lots to see and plenty of patients to attend to, or experiment on. The scalpels are kept on him at all times and can be used similar to daggers as well for their medical purposes. Egon tends to use them as ranged weapons rather than in close combat. Nuibari (Literally meaning "Sewing Needle): The blade itself assumes the form of a narrow "longsword" that greatly resembles a large needle, with a long length of thin wire mirroring thread, tied to the eye located at the base of its hilt. The blade can be used to not only pierce and cut, but at the right speeds can be used to stitch its victims, tying them up, mangling their bodies, and worse. Dr. Ego is able to target vital points in the body with pinpoint accuracy. With so many vital points in the human body it is almost impossible for any normal human to defend every single one of them. Most people would not have knowledge of every single point beyond the most common, but as a doctor Egon is knowledgeable of every organ and muscle in the human body. With this knowledge and his training every attack is aimed to inflict maximum damage. Deft Hands: Dr. Ego’s knowledge of the medical arts has made him proficient at healing others. Injuries under his care will heal much faster. Depending on the injury Dr. Ego is able to heal them in battle little by little until they are fully healed. Scratches and light gashes will only take one post while more serious wounds will take longer. Outside of combat wounds will heal even faster. Eagle’s Vision: Genetic experimentation on himself has granted Dr. Ego with vision beyond that of normal humans. Through experimentation and countless surgeries Dr. Ego has gifted himself with extraordinary vision. It isn’t exactly Eagle vision, but it exceeds normal human vision. It is difficult to gauge his vision, but it seems to be close to 20/8 when focusing.
