PERSONALITYPOSITIVE TRAITS:
- Easygoing :: Jack is most definitely a very relaxed, carefree individual who strives to sail through life as simply as he can. It’s difficult to get on his bad side, and he’s generally pretty forgiving for most things.
- Gregarious :: He’s usually pretty happy to chat it up with pretty much everyone and anyone, no matter their appearance and origin, barring Marines.
- Extremely Loyal :: Jack believes that family is everything, and to him, his friends are the same as family. Become a true friend of Jack and you’ll have a stalwart companion who’ll stay with you to the bitter end.
- Strong-Willed :: To an extreme level. He simply will not give up and back down when he sets his mind on something, unless it’s appalling clear he or someone else will die as a result.
- Charismatic :: He’s a very charming fellow, in his own way, with an easy smile and relaxing aura that tends to make people quite fond of him rather quickly. This extends to his leadership skills, as while he might not look the part, he is quite a talented leader.
NEGATIVE TRAITS:
- Lazy :: An extension of his very laid-back approach to life, Jack tends to be very, very lazy unless he absolutely has to do something. He’d much prefer to have a nap or lounge around somewhere with a nice breeze.
- Vengeful :: To extreme levels. While it’s difficult to truly wrong Jack, if you do, he won’t stop seeking revenge until his last breath. You can be very certain that the punishment will be exceedingly brutal, as well.
- Possessive :: The loss of his friends hit him very hard, so it’s perhaps natural that he is very protective and possessive of his newfound companions. This makes him prone to overreacting when someone harms or insults them, and he definitely does not take attempts to steal them from him well at all.
- Greedy :: When it comes to food, mostly. He’ll eat and eat and eat until he passes out, and it takes a significant amount of food for that to happen. He has little to no compunctions about taking other people’s food, though he gets quite aggressive should anyone attempt to do the same to him.
- Independant :: Jack is used to doing his own thing, or having crew members following his orders, so it’s very difficult for him to do the same. It’s a knee-jerk reaction of him to bridle at anyone attempting to command him, which can get problematic when dealing with more powerful individuals.
LIKES:
- Food :: One of Jack’s greatest loves in life is food, of practically any kind. There is nothing he has come across so far that he will not devour, and good food is something that makes him a very happy man. So much so that if feeding him is a very quick way of getting on his good side, and getting between his food or, heaven forbid, stealing it, will make him a very angry man indeed.
- Relaxing :: Something Jack is very fond of doing is just lounging around and taking it easy. You can often find him propped up somewhere with his hat over his eyes and a little smile on his lips. Stress and worry are things he dislikes being in his life.
- Animals :: Due in large part to the companionship of wildlife as a child, Jack has a major soft spot for animals of all shapes and sizes, treating even the most monstrous and terrifying with the same genial fondness as he would a puppy. He has a strange habit of wanting to keep monsters as pets.
- Nature :: The great outdoors and the endless seas have a firm grip on Jack’s heart and soul. He much prefers being out and about in the wilderness or out on the open sea over being cooped up in some city.
- A good fight :: While Jack isn’t one prone to needless or unprovoked violence, that doesn’t mean by any stretch of the imagination that he doesn’t enjoy a hearty scrap. The pulse-pounding intensity of combat and testing your mettle against someone else is something that really excites him.
- Swords :: Ever since he was a child, Jack has been absolutely fascinated with swords of every shape and kind. He someday hopes to try out some of the strongest swords in the world.
DISLIKES:
- Weakness :: In regards to himself. He still blames himself for not being strong enough to fight off the marines that killed his old crew, so he pushes himself to be as strong as he can possibly be.
- Betrayal :: More so than most people, Jack despises betrayal, even among those who are his enemies. To him, loyalty is a sacred thing and should not be abused, and to do so is an unforgivable act.
- Bullies :: Jack really, really doesn’t like people who pick on those weaker than themselves. It really rattles his cage and if he sees such, there’s a very high chance he’ll step in.
- Marines :: Naturally enough, given his path in life, and the fact that marines were responsible for the death of the entirety of his old crew, Jack holds quite the deep-rooted dislike of any servants of ‘Justice’.
- Hunger :: He does not deal well with hunger at all and he loathes the sensation.
- Needless violence :: Jack believes that you shouldn’t hurt people unless they deserve it, so wanton violence and destruction disgusts him.
- People touching his hat :: His little brother made it for him, so he treasures it more than anything else he owns or could ever own. People touching it gets him aggressive very rapidly, and if they even attempted to damage it he'd be furious.
- Ill Treatment of Little Siblings :: Due to losing his little brother in the tragedy that took his entire crew, Jack is extremely touchy when it comes to people who are abusive, indifferent or otherwise less than pleasant to their younger siblings.
APPEARANCEImage Link: Ihttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n84/Arkerane/JackBG.png
Height: 6’6
Weight: 250lbs
Hair Color: J ack’s hair is of a very high quality, possessed of a thick and lustrous nature that is the envy of many a beauty, and the worst part is he doesn’t do anything to achieve such. A rich golden hue, the flaxen locks are of medium length, reaching down to just above his eyes at the front, atop his ears at the sides and brushing his neck at the rear. Jack’s hair is what most would call ‘artfully messy’, as he pays little to no attention to how it looks beyond his habit of running his fingers through it to push it back, so it retains a rough look that is nonetheless appealing to the eye.
Eye Color: His eyes resemble two discs of burnished, gleaming gold of a warm and rich hue which is slightly darker than his hair.
Attire: Not being much of a man given to formal wear or uniforms, Jack tends towards casual attire that has a classy edge to it. Shirts that are never fully buttoned are worn beneath a suit jacket of varying style and colour, while he wears loose pants that are designed more for comfort than style. Preferring to go barefoot more often than not, Jack will still wear a pair of very worn-in white sneakers when it suits him. Something Jack is rarely seen without is his black trilby hat. .
Abnormalities: Tattooed upon his back is the jolly roger of his old crew, beneath which is written all of their names. Upon his chest is tattooed his personal version of the jolly roger of the Whitescale pirates, to symbolize his dedication to the future. BACKGROUND The child known as Jack D. Argyle was born on Dundra island in North Blue, the first son of a great pirate and a loving, ordinary woman. Though his father was rarely home, visiting only to check on things and on a few occasions give Jack lessons in fighting, Dundra island was often visited by several crews of pirates that viewed the place as a haven of sorts, resulting in a rough and tumble but amiable atmosphere for the most part. Jack’s mother was usually busy making enough money as a barmaid in order to support herself and her two sons, Jack and his younger brother Theodore, due to his father’s absence, so the lad was left to his own devices for most of the day. He spent most of his time getting into trouble and leading around a band of children in similar situations, looking out both for them and his little brother as their de facto protector. They usually played at being pirates, dubbing themselves the Laughing Pirates, with Jack assuming the position of Captain without complaint or dispute, he being the biggest strongest and bravest of the little gang. Several times they got into scraps with other children, teenagers and even once or twice a couple of adults, but due to Jack’s leadership and his insistence on training to be stronger, they managed to come out of such altercations without too much serious damage.
Years passed, and the children grew from a small band of ruffians into a full blown, adult crew. A crew without a ship, which to Jack was no crew at all. A time came when he decided that they had lazed around at home for long enough and the moment was right for them to truly begin their adventure as proper pirates, not just kids playing games. Organising his group as best he could with his little brother Theo as his second in command, Jack plotted and executed a plan that resulted in them hijacking a large merchant ship and sailing at full tilt out from their port and away from their childhood home, leaving his heartbroken mother behind to fret about the safety of her sons.On the same night, after celebrating their initial success, the crew gathered about and decided to make the entire thing formal, deciding on a name and a jolly roger. In the end, after hours of bickering, laughter and some smatterings of serious discussion, they decided on the name of the Laughing Pirates and the jolly roger of a laughing skull emblazoned upon a golden sun. From there, they had a great many adventures, sailing around the North Blue and getting into trouble, having some good laughs and generally living their lives to the fullest.
Alas, all good things must eventually come to an end, and for Jack, Theo and the Laughing Pirates, their time together would be cut tragically short. There was nothing different about that day when it all came to an end. The crew got up, chatted and roughoused over breakfast and prepared for their next day of living the dream. That was when the first cannonball was fired. To Jack’s memory, it all happened in a nightmarish mixture of too quick to react and horrifying slowness, the attack from the marine ship decimating the Laughing Pirates’ own little converted merchant galley. Jack was helpless to watch as his crew died before his very eyes, but eventually it came to an end, the barrage from the marine ship ceasing as the pirate vessel began to sink, the marines fading to a distant blot on the horizon as they sailed onwards. Still numb from shock, Jack cradled the heavily wounded from of his little brother Theo as he lay dying, sobbing as the younger man smiled up at him and spoke his last words, telling Jack that it was okay, everything would be fine and that they could still live on so long as Jack carried on their dream of reaching the Grand Line someday and enjoying life as a true pirate. A passing fishing ship investigating the wreckage found him like that, sobbing quietly to himself and cradling the limp form of his brother, surrounded by the ruination of all that he cherished in life.
The boat that picked him up was manned by a concerned family of fishermen that were kind enough to let him stay with them while he recovered from his injuries and work through the trauma of losing his beloved crew and family. After a while, he managed to become well enough again to leave, and so he did, thanking the family and setting to wandering the large island he’d ended up on and using his time to ponder his future and his brother’s words. After a year or two of soul searching, meeting people and coming to terms with what had happened, he decided to abide by his brother’s last wishes and carry on their dream, to live for both their sake and his own. Since then, he has acquired a modest little ship to sail the seas by and has begun searching for people with dreams of their own to accompany him and form his new crew, remembering the past while looking to the future.
ADDITIONAL INFOPERSONAL DRIVE: To fulfill his old crew’s dream of sailing to the end of the Grand Line, as well as a more personal one of adventuring, finding new nakama and living a life truly worth living.
